I'm not crapping on your caffeine and sugar - they are both very useful.  I'm just defending protein.  I thought you were much bigger in earlier pics.  Yes, you're more ripped now, but you do look to be down in bodyweight.

seriously Rob, i know guys who have never lifted a weight in their lives, get about 50-80 grams of protein per day (most of that from beer) and look in better shape than you.

i can't believe that you actually think all that protein is going into your muscles. how much atual muscle have you built in the last 10 years? or have you actually lost muscle ??? i'd say you're not getting a very good return for your money but you won't believe me. you'll still delude yourself into believing you need that much protein and possibly more for 'even better results' ::).

175lbs skinny fat at well over 6ft. is a disgrace for an experienced bber such as yourself. of course you will blame it on lack of genetics/drugs but the reality is that you are a slave to the mantra of supplement companies that want you to accept this explanation for your lack of progress so you will seek out new and more expensive 'protein powders' to get closer to the 'genetic elite'.

I'm 5'10.
I was 125 pounds at age 25.  Just so you know the genetic starting point that I had.
I am now 175 pounds at age 31, at the same bodyfat %.
And I have the pics to prove it.



If you've gained 50 pounds in 6 years while maintaining the same bodyfat, and have pics to prove it, all the power to you.  Show us the photographs.  Otherwise, quit flaming.

Yes, I got fat to do it, and yes, I dont claim to know a ton about nutrition.  But if you're taking the position that 60 grams of protein per day is enoug for daddy waddy to gain muscle at 230 pounds and 6 foot 6, well, you're wrong.

I know middle schoolers who can dunk a basketball the first time they step on a court, and I know 30 year old guys who have played ball for 20 years who will never dunk.  We all have different starting lines.

seriously, don't mean to flame. i guess i'm just pretty blunt. you kind of missed my sarcasm with the beer coment though. :-\

i want to see more pics that show you were the same bodyfat at 125 as you are at 175. frankly, i don't believe you and some glossy pic of your skinny fat mid-section doesn't prove a thing.

i probably will post some pics when i can be bothered to get my girlfriend to take some, why not? but i don't see how my body means anything. i'll tell you right now though (and you can use this later as evidence of a self owning if i am bsing) i look a ton more muscular and in better condition than you though and i'm not even a bber. i just use weight training as part of my strength program. besides, you will just say that i am genetically gifted or taking drugs, as is the standard answer for people's failings.

thing is, i couldn't give a flying fuck how much protein i eat day to day. sometimes i only eat once or twice. maybe if i was cycling steroids, gh or insulin i migh assimilate all that food but i'm not so deluded as to think that, even at around 240lbs i will assimilate 300+grams of protein. the truth is that i probably average about 130 grams of protein, so how the hell could i possibly have any muscle??? ;D

Our starting lines are going to be different.  There are high school kids who look better than I ever will.  You probably started with a better frame and muscle bellies than I will ever get to.  That's okay, that's just genetics.

The RDA of protein for a 174 lb. adult male is about 63 Grams.

So at the VERY LEAST, DW, at 230 pounds, cannot skate on 50 grams per day.

let me just remind you Rob, that you're the one making the bold statements here, not me, so i just want to see some evidence for all that '300+grams of protein' and 'i've gained 50lbs of muscle in the same condition' shit. you're advising people obviously better built than you that they must eat more protein.

i'm not doubting your success or your satisfaction re your gains. what i am doubting is how much your diet and, specifically, all that protein, had to do with it. it's a little too convenient to dismiss anyone that defies your logic/theories as simply genetically blessed.

I dunno.  I don't think my bones have grown much from age 25 to 31.  I am sure some of that 50 was fat.  And some was muscle.

you're advising people obviously better built than you that they must eat more protein.

Did you know that Chad Nicholls, who trains Ronnie and Melvin and others, is not better built than them?  yes, and he still has the nerve to tell them how to eat.

Did you know that many of the trainers and nutritionists in the world aren't world class bodybuilders, but they still know something?

That being said, it's the blind leading the blind here.  When DW announces that 50 grams of protein are enough for a 230 pounds man to gain muscle, he's putting things out there that'll cause others to waste time or risk health and well-being.   Aside from ANY athlete stuff - the US RDA for protein for a 174 lb male is more than that.  He's 50 pounds of muscle heavier.  You will find no credible scientific research anywhere that says a 230 pound bodybuilder needs only 50 grams or less of protein a day.

Why should we believe you, and not the vast scientific base of knowledge that PhDs have spent their life researching?
