190+ Bush Administration Scandals
« on: December 21, 2007, 07:13:20 AM »
Merry Christmas!

Here is a top ten list of Bush Administration Scandals!

1.  Iraq WMD (or lack thereof)
2.  Armstrong Williams (the Bush administration’s pay-for-play pundit)
3.  Abu Ghraib torture scandal
4.  Medicare reform fraud (including budget lies, tax-payer funded fake new stories)
5.  Enron (including stock disaster, California energy fraud and Bush denial of Ken Lay friendship)
6.  Secret Cheney energy plan
7.  "Mission Accomplished" speech on USS Abraham Lincoln
8.  Valerie Plame CIA agent outing
9.  Bogus Iraq/guy yellow cake uranium claims
10. Bush National Guard non-service

http://www.perrspectives.com/features/contest.htm

That looks a little dated considering the FISA felonies aren't included.

So here's a list of 190 more Bush Scandals:

http://www.deepjournal.com/p/7/a/en/743.html

There's the FISA scandal...at 12.

12. Bush authorized warrantless NSA wiretapping in October 2001. The program was targeted at domestic telephone and internet communication in violation of the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) which itself set a fairly low bar for wiretaps. It may also have included massive data mining of domestic communications. In March 2004, Deputy Attorney General James Comey and Attorney General John Ashcroft decided to refuse a periodic DOJ signoff on its legality. This resulted in the extraordinary scene where then White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales and Chief of Staff Andrew Card tried to get Ashcroft to sign an authorization while Ashcroft lay in an ICU bed suffering from gallstone pancreatitis. Comey who was acting Attorney General was present as Ashcroft resisted. Despite the refusal by the DOJ to vouch for the program's legality, Bush re-authorized it anyway. The program became public when the New York Times reported on it in December 2005. In 2006 various unsuccessful attempts were made to accommodate the program. This included the infamous attempted "compromise" by Arlen Specter to legalize its worst excesses and retroactively amnesty any illegalities. Under mounting pressure and with a new Democratic Congress, Alberto Gonzales announced on January 18, 2007, a "deal" with the FISA court which would put the program under its supervision. Gonzales maintained, however, that Bush still had Article II power to go outside the court if he wanted to. Despite previous abuses, April 10, 2007 intelligence czar DNI John McConnell proposes changes to FISA to permit domestic surveillance of foreign nationals completely outside of FISA, extend from 3 days to one week surveillance without seeking FISA permission "in emergency situations," immunize telecoms, and extend FISA warrants from 120 days to one year

Looks like a partisan negative stories list, not a "scandal" list.  They did the same thing to Clinton.

How was Enron a Bush Administration scandal?

How is hanging a sign saying "Mission Accomplished" a scandal?

The Bush National Guard non-service story?  Some 20+ years before he took office?  That's a Bush Administration scandal?

These are simply negative stories about that may or not relate to Bush, but not all of them are Bush "scandals."

Kenny Boy Lay was a Bush insider and likely consultant to the Cheney national energy plan--he was also a first class felon.

The whitehouse had the Mission Accomplished banner hung at Bush's victory speech.  The WH lied and said the troops hung it.

Bush's story of his service was at odds with that of his commanding officer.  He lied and Desertion is still a crime.

So Bush was responsible for Enron?  Played a role?  Sorry, I don't see Enron as a Bush Administration scandal.

How do you conclude that the White House lied about hanging a sign?  And even some staffer did, so what?  Seems awfully petty to me.

Another unproved allegation about his military service.  He may well have lied about his service, but that was 1972.  lol.  C'mon dude.  That clearly isn't a Bush Administration scandal.

I could probably go through the list and pick out a ton of others, but I suspect it would be a waste of time, because the are likely so many.
So you have no problem with felon Ken Lay having a relationship with Pres. Bush dating back to 1994?  Or that he was a consultant to our national energy policy?

Mission Accomplished?

White House officials say that a variety of people, including the president, came up with the idea, and that Mr. Sforza embedded himself on the carrier to make preparations days before Mr. Bush's landing in a flight suit and his early evening speech.Media strategists noted afterward that Mr. Sforza and his aides had choreographed every aspect of the event, even down to the members of the Lincoln crew arrayed in coordinated shirt colors over Mr. Bush's right shoulder and the "Mission Accomplished" banner placed to perfectly capture the president and the celebratory two words in a single shot. The speech was specifically timed for what image makers call "magic hour light," which cast a golden glow on Mr. Bush.

...Scott Sforza, a former ABC producer who was hired by the Bush campaign in Austin, Tex., and who now works for Dan Bartlett, the White House communications director.

http://edition.cnn.com/2003/US/05/16/nyt.bumiller/

THE PRESIDENT: The "Mission Accomplished" sign, of course, was put up by the members of the USS Abraham Lincoln, saying that their mission was accomplished. I know it was attributed some how to some ingenious advance man from my staff -- they weren't that ingenious, by the way.

That is the definition of 'bald-faced' lying which equals a scandal.

The president, commander and chief of the armed forces, is a likely deserter from the armed forces as a young man and that's not important to the Bush Administration as a scandal?

Can you or Beach list which of the Bush 190 were "CTs"?

If so, I'm sure Decker can provide verification of the story.

Please list them.

Don't dodge it.  You made a direct statement and I'm calling you out on it.

Please show us the top 190 scandals of the Clinton Presidency then, will you?

Wanna start with 100 + deaths and suicides associated during his administration?

I think this is pretty funny.

Colossus's list is composed of partial references that don't do me much good in developing an opinion on the matter.

I have a problem with any public official or member of the business community who is a felon.  What I don't see is any connection to Ken Lay being the president of Enron and a Bush Administration scandal.  That's partisan nonsense IMO.  If Bush was involved in Enron in some way, then I could see this possibly being related to his administration.

That Mission Accomplished stuff is really petty.  I have a hard time getting worked up over that.  A scandal?  Hardly.

No, the fact Bush probably dodged the draft over 30 years ago isn't a Bush Administration scandal.  That's actually the definition of a dead horse.  It was relevant BEFORE he was elected the first time.  It has zero to do with a current "scandal."
