More class from the Chargers
« on: December 25, 2007, 11:21:37 AM »
Thought taunting was the unclassy thing to do. The chargers are winning some games , go figure now they are all running there mouths again  ::) Rivers is a punk. A bad qb carried by the talent on his team.

I know what you are saying... But the chargers are the same team who melted down all over the place and screamed about class when they got taunted last year.

Imo the chargers are the biggest talkers in the NFL , then cry like little bitches when they lose or have the same done to them.

Perhaps you missed it when Lynch threw LT's helmet ten yards down the field, um yeah that would be reason enough for anyone of the Chargers to be pumped up. do you honestly thing Rivers just started jawing for no reason? look at his past, he was highly respected while at NC State for his maturity at a young age, ive never heard any analyst, reporter, or player say anything negative about his character..his physical ability yes but not his character. a ten second snippet of Rivers yelling at a player on another team isnt enough to generalize. i dont judge Lynch for tossing LT's helmet within regards to his overall character or career, he is a stand up guy.
Cutler has had a reputation of being a brash, confident/cocky player since he was in college, that was brought up many times during his draft analysis..its also a reason why i like him.
Bod your biasness towards certain teams and their QB's is very strong, but it is what it is.

No its not. The chargers talk a ton of shit all the time. They have not said much this year because they sucked for most of it. Now that they are winning they are back at it. The chargers boast about how classy they are , then whine when others do some talking to them. Lt is one of the worst sore losers I have ever seen. A great great player , but a total crybaby. How many times did he show it this year? I can name several. If TO or Moss stood upand walked away from there qb in a childish fit they would be torn up by the media and fans.

This is far from the only time something like this has gone down. And not the only time Rivers has acted like a child. The chargers where some of the biggest talkers out there last year. And on the flipside the biggest whiners when they didnt win.

Thats my opinion, deal with it. If you think im biased and or dont like my threads start your own instead of crying about mine. This board is a place to state an opinion. Baised (in your opinion) unbiased green purple or orange. Get over it , really.

I think Rivers is a whiny talker who does not back up his mouth with his play. Yelling at the fans, crying to the refs at every single chance, fighting with his own players on the sidelines, talking trash about other players in the media, flip flopping for the refs. It goes on and on.

That my opinion.

I will give the same answer I gave on the topic of running up the score.

It isn't like these guys are in grade school and run the risk of being emotionally scarred from the taunting. They are grown men that get paid a healthy chunk of money for playing a game that they love. They can handle it. Boo freaking hoo.

I just watched the video and I will say that they make themselves look foolish acting like that on t.v...but still no reason for the other team to complain, if anything their own teamates should complain they make the whole team look bad acting that way.

And I dont whine about you being biased for having one. Thats my point.

I have sang the praises of many qb's on this board before. Big Ben , Romo , Manning and Gerrard to name a few.

Just because I think Brady is the best qb in the NFL and IMO Rivers is a punk does not make me biased.

Every fan of every team is biased in a sense. This board whole purpose is based on sports fans opinions.

I agree with you. I have no problem with the Jawing. What I do have a problem with are those same chargers jawing are the ones crying about class when it does not go there way.

As an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey has lined up and locked down plenty of guys around the league.
And I don't really care for [Phillip Rivers], first of all. He's not a respectable guy right now because you talk too much trash and do this and that, but you're really not a great player in this league right now.
-- Denver's Champ Bailey

But Bailey says there was no defense for Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers' sideline taunting of Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler in the fourth quarter of Monday night's 23-3 Broncos loss in San Diego.
The video has made the rounds of the highlight shows near and far, but after an incomplete pass on fourth down in the fourth quarter, Rivers -- as well as linebackers Shaun Phillips and Matt Wilhelm -- clearly can be seen jawing at Cutler from the San Diego sideline.

But it was the Chargers quarterback who drew the Broncos' ire.
"And I don't really care for the guy, first of all," Bailey said of Rivers on Wednesday. "He's not a respectable guy right now because you talk too much trash and do this and that, but you're really not a great player in this league right now.
"You're surrounded by great players, but you're not a great player. I think he needs to understand where he stands in this league -- where he stands on his team first and foremost."

The incident was a topic of discussion among Broncos players as they gathered after the holiday to begin their workweek leading to Sunday's season finale against the Minnesota Vikings.

Teammates said Cutler certainly was not happy with what was perceived as a breach of etiquette, but publicly he was measured in his response.

"We've talked about it a little bit," Cutler said. "I'm not going to get into it. It's an unfortunate situation. They talk a lot of stuff, it got heated between the two teams. Personally, I don't think the teams like each other, which is fine. It's just going to add to it later next year and the year after that. It should be exciting."

Asked if he had ever done that to another quarterback, Cutler shook his head and said "No."

Rivers said he used no profanity and was only reacting to his defense's play.

"We get a fourth-down stop, Wilhelm and Shaun Phillips, those guys been jawing the whole game with them," Rivers told The San Diego Union-Tribune. "We get a good stop. They are jawing. I'm not anywhere involved. I come out to congratulate them on the stop. I come out to congratulate them, and while I'm out there, yeah, there is some eye contact, but I'm saying 'atta baby' to Matt Wilhelm and Shaun Phillips. Sure, there is eye contact. Maybe there is a smirk. But I am speaking to my guys. That's all that was said.

"I don't think I have to defend myself. I used no profanity, I said nothing personal to anybody on that field. I was out there playing football. We're not in a tennis match. I understand some of the frustration is they've lost four in a row to this team. People don't like losing four in a row."

Rivers also said he was surprised by Bailey's reaction, saying: "He's one guy I've always said we respect him. He's one of the top corners in the league. Out there in the game, I say very little to Champ other than if we do complete one on him -- and you don't go after the guy -- he'll look at me, I'll grin at him like, 'Hey, we got you.' It's always been a very respectful communication between me and him. That surprises me."

Broncos tight end Tony Scheffler said the incident would come up again when the Broncos face the Chargers next season and veteran cornerback Dre Bly added Rivers had not yet "earned the right to do that."

"They've got a lot of classy guys on that team," Bailey said. "He kind of represents the classless guy on that team. He's definitely lost my respect."

straight from ESPN just to add fuel to the fire..we now have a good rivalry going

very true, i just looked up the past couple of seasons and the Chargers are 4-0.
this year the Broncs have just got a few field goals against them..i dont doubt that the Broncs will be competitive in the near future though.

Every NFL team has a large bunch of players that talk shit on the field to each other. There are things that said between players in-between plays on the field that cannot be repeated in public.

Just because Rivers got caught doing it on TV doesn't make him a punk, in my opinion. Most of all those guys on the fied love to talk smack. It's the best of the best competing against each other and everyone's lookinf for an edge. Talking trash is big part of NFL football and most of the players do it.

Not only that, but how about these stupid convulsing dances or posturing a lot of these players do even after a simple tackle in the 1st quarter?

For example, it drives me NUTS when a d-lineman or linebacker makes a sack on the quarterback and launch into these ridiculous tirades and dances after the play is over. That's ONE play where the defensive player got through to make a sack. What about the other 20-30 snaps where the offensive lineman blocking him did his job?? I understand making plays during critical stretches in the game but I'm talking about this bullshit happening throughout the game even during garbage time.

Can't single out the Chargers. True, they talk a lot of smack but really no more than any other NFL team, in my opinion.

And by ALL accounts, like others have said, Rivers is a class act.  He wasn't even saying anything directly to Cutler, from what is being reported.  Hell, MJ, Bird, Favre, etc... are all known trash talkers.

Bird was known for his trash talking, Majic was attest to that. so was McKale, Charles Barkley said Kevin McKale was the toughest person he ever played against..and would never stop talking. of course that was the pinnacle of the NBA.

Its slowly creeping out what a douche bag LT really is...Within the next 5 years, he will be exposed for the fucking cry baby he truly is...I can't wait for his skills to start to diminish...He is a TO in sheep's clothing...The look on this babies face shows what a true mamma's boy he is...A great great player for sure but one of the worse babies in the league...He will crash hard in the near future...
