Serious question:

You powerlifter types use lots of different formulae to calculate 1 rep maxes so perhaps someone can answer this:
I can do 5 or 6 good clean reps with 405 lbs (my small hands necessitate straps but otherwise my form is good), what would that equate to with 500 lbs? I don't do very low reps so I haven't ever tried five plates.

Would I be able to get a second rep?

even with the 2.5kg plates that only makes 495lbs plates in the uk weigh 44lbs

We have people in the UK getting in on this? Well, do the lift with 228kg and we will have our judges review the footage to confirm. Still go with the 5 plate setup, just use a larger outter weight that will bring you to 228kg. I know its a pound higher but what are ya gonna do?

Thanks

I believe you can get however many you really want to. Though if you want to know what a chart says you can lift, go here: http://www.criticalbench.com/chart.htm

500 for the most reps. We want to see people passing out and such. ;)

...yeah, been wondering about that myself.

I usually deadlift after squatting, so this week I tried skipping the squats altogether and managed to get 11 reps with 405 (that's 405 by 11 using wrist straps but with no resting on the ground between reps).

Would that mean I could manage a single with 500 lbs???

The Luke

you might want to try this...

put 500lbs on the bar and try to lift it off the floor.

if you fail you have your answer.

hope this helps... ::)

WELL, I had your best interests in mind...I just figured I'd give you guys a better chance against me, that's all.   ;)

So... how does body weight factor in?  Are reps considered the same, whether from someone 200 pounds or 300 pounds?
At the very least, the smaller guy should win in the event of a tie.

The rules are straightforward...most reps wins.

I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen!  ;D

but yeah I guess if there's a tie for reps.. the lighter guy is the stronger lifter but like I said.. in this one.. I doubt that'll happen

...The Luke is just a pizza over 200 lbs and only 5'5''

That's not a "big ol'boy" (but then again, I'll be lucky to do one rep given my current training poundages)

- Just do as many as possible in 3 minutes without ever letting go of the bar!

No one is gonna pull 500 for 3 minutes.

he's saying you have three minutes to do it..so if you blow your load in 4 reps.. and take 2 minute sto recover before trying to do another one..you can do that as long as you don't let go of the bar.
