After I schooled him on the evidence (as I did with joelocal tonight - he's very quiet now), I'd tell him that I actually SUPPORT the war for oil and bases, because I want a strong USA.  I just detest being lied to :)
this is incredibly stupid of you 240.

All I have to say is one position is smart, educated, moral and ethically in tune with a reasonable and rational society and the other position is a primitive belief that's proof that we clearly have not evolved beyond superstitious, fearful cave dwelling talking warmongering monkies.

Thanks for what you do Jason. If it's not too much to ask and have you remember again, would you mind telling the procedures as to how they saved your arm both in the truck and in the hospital?

Guess  you have some "cred" now huh?!  ;D  They ever offer to do any other kind of reconstruction to you or no?  ???

It will be easier for me to explain to Ed next week.  Its a long story and I dont type very fast.

I'm a republican.  I understand that controlling Iraqi oil means they cannot disrupt our economy or lives.  And bases there mean we can protect against russia or china in the future.

Actually he is a political pawn who doesn't even realize that he himself is a terrorist fighting an immoral and illegal war for MONEY while being brainwashed to believe it is for freedom.  Without soldiers, this war could not continue.  Soldiers and police officers are hired thugs with guns to protect the assets of the rich.

That said, in his own subjective perspective, he is a hero, fighting for what he (falsely) believes to be a just cause.  But the same can be said for Hitler, so that argument is meaningless.

Do you live in America?

If so your one of those lil loud mouth pussies I bet who talked about how you would smoke basic training huh. In actuality i bet you would have been one of those pussies that helped with the army try stress cards. Wow you should be the happiest that he was man enough to almost give up all the use of his arm, so you could sit on a computer and write shit like that. Pussies who talk big should be the happiest he did what he did. That way you don't have someone kicking in your door and whacking you with a machete and shit. We have our rights because of the people who serve. You need to tell your history teacher son that you need some more school. You are probally hoping Hillarie wins the election huh?

SOrry meltdown.

haha, did I call this one or what?  ;D  Monster foreshadowing:

I would prefer a civilized debate.  Rather than simply "your [sic] an idiot for not following the status quo" and other comments like that.

And yes, I did promise I would smoke basic training.  And as always, I'm a man of my word.  ;)

Canada has an ARMY. Holy shit I have heard it all. I bet you pussies rode bikes for basic training. Give me a break your police ride horses and don't carry guns. Has canada ever had to use their army. Minus that time where you guys were used as security for the hannah montana concert..

ROFL!  ;D

The combined air, sea, and land forces of Minnesota are no doubt stronger than the entire forces in Canada!  But to be fair, you are exaggerating things a little.  I think our basic training is more or less the same, but I'm not sure.

Let me guess we stole land in germany when we took down hitler. Let me guess we are stealing land in Iraq? Wait I know you are gonna come back with the horrible attempt of saying we are stealing oil and making gazzilions of dollars. Where is it all going. I know Bush is gonna retire with 300 trilion in off shore accounts huh? WoW. Talk to people who have come back, they know that this war was inevitable and was something that needed to happen or at least was going to happen. Land stealing ha-ha...

whether you like the war or hate the war, one thing cannot be denied...

In 10 years, the US will control 80% of Iraqi oil and we'll still have bases in great spots for defense against Russia and China and anyone else.

America WILL BE stronger as a result of the Iraq war.  yeah, it's costing a trillion bucks, but Iraq sits on 50 to 75 trillion worth of saleable oil.  In ten years, you'll still be able to fill your SUV and you'll still sleep safe at night, thanks to this war.

It ain't perfect.  But if you want to keep living like #1, you need stable resources and protection.  Most of us would choose this war over living in a shack and eating from a garden again.

Basic was a piece of cake, no question. You are using to great a force to compare with Canada's forces. Idaho has more troops and more fire power in their armed forces then all of Canade. I would be more terrified of your hockey players then your service men.. ha-ha.

I would imagine any state in the US has more power than the entire CF.  I'm not totally sure about that though so I won't claim it to be a fact or anything.

See, 240 gets it, why don't most others? Or do they get it, but they don't want to accept it ???

I have an MBA and was a damn history teacher, and it still took a year of whining for me to accept it.  So despite all the economic and historical precedents, I was just too immature to accept it.

Now I see that Bush/Cheney will, incredibly, be remembered as an administratino that put us in a very good position for the next few decades.  The world isn't big USA fans at the moment, but it was necessary.  China is growing, Russia is debt-free and scarey as hell, and they have a treaty with iran to care for one another.  They're a beast, and they will be the biggest threat for the next 30 years.

Now we have a nice reserve of oil.  Now we have bases there, and we aren't dependent upon keeping them in saudi arabia.  Now we ensure Iraqi oil is sold in dollars FOREVER.

Bush and Cheney will be judged very favorably by history.  They listed their goals in PNAC before entering office - a new pearl harbor then bases and oil control in arabia - and that is EXACTLY what they did.  If we didn't want that, we shouldn't have elected and re-elected them.  They told us what they'd do, and they did it.  As sad and immoral as it seems, it's necessary, and I'm glad they are able to make calls like that, which I couldn't.

I get the concept, but i see a problem.   I think being closer to russia or china will not be-freind them or make things easiar.   As we are already admitting....we illegally occupied Iraq for conveince of its assets.    This puts russia and china on gaurd to the fact that we are capable of war-mongering at any time, so why niot them!!       Sleep with one open.....we have new neighbors!!

That is a lot of ASSumptions.  What weak puppet government we install in Iraq-will not last very long. Oil is going to be sold in Euros in the future and our collapsing weak dollar is not something any other countries will want.  I doubt we have any troops in Iraq 10 years from now.

all countries do what's best for their people and longterm sustainability - they build up defenses, create relationships, and hoard resources.

RUS and CHI are big trading and strategic partners.  But at the same time, they're doing what we are - trying to grab up every advantage they can.  All countries (save sweden) do it.  We WANT our leaders to be aggressive like this.   If we hadn't acquired iraqi oil, iran or china would have.

Not immature...idealist, maybe to the point of naivety.  I can accept that.

If in 100 years from now the total loss of life ends up being smaller than it would have been had this not happened, I can appreciate that.  I don't like this concept of relative ethics though.  I am a strict constitutionalist.  I don't like the idea of giving up any of my civil liberties for the sake of "the greater good".  Ultimately, Bush is still a very greedy person driven solely by money.  He would do anything to make himself and his buddies rich and whether history proves those things to be good things doesn't change the fact that he would kill you and your entire family in a heartbeat if it interfered with his goals.
