That is a lot of ASSumptions.  What weak puppet government we install in Iraq-will not last very long. Oil is going to be sold in Euros in the future and our collapsing weak dollar is not something any other countries will want.  I doubt we have any troops in Iraq 10 years from now.

Do your homework.  We have 14+ permanent bases there.  They will be there 50 years from now.  Long term infrastructure is in place.

We own 80% of their oil exploration rights, regardless of the party/govt structurein place.  And yes, we have the guns to back it up :)  We own these rights forever.  And this means this oil will be sold in dollars, forever.  Other nations will use the dollar if they want to purchase iraqi oil.

Please don't insult me by making "ASSumptions".  This was a longterm streategic move, and it worked, and we're all glad it did, whether or not we admit it.

See Vietnam, we had permanent bases all over the country  ::)

The Iraqi people arent fond of our presence there, no puppet govt will last.  Wait until we pull our troops out in the next 24 months..........shit will hit the fan.

I disagree.  Shit has alrady hit the fan there for a long time, and it's nearly under control.  There will always be violence.  But our bases are isolated and safe.  And the Green Zone is about the size of Rhode Island.

We still have what, 50k troops and a ton of bases in S. Korea from the 50s.  That's sixty years.  And those bases have proven useful for many reasons during that time.

It's like having a girl in every area code.  You go uptown, you have a place to get laid.  You go downtown, you get her to cook you a steak and a BJ, hit the shower and head to the beach. At the beach, you meet girl #3 and play all night.  Having resources (bases or girls) all over the place makes things convenient, makes you ready for more things, and just make you a more powerful nation/happy guy.

We have bitches in Korea, Germany, Iraq, and a score of other places.  They're ready if/when we need them :)

When you owe the bank $10,000 - they own you.

When you owe the bank $10,000,000 - you own the damn bank!

China has it in their absolute best interest for the dollar to thrive.

War is unavoidable. It always has been and always will be. Would you rather us just allow shit to happen and then it ends up in Canada. Cause lord  knows if we didn't do shit you guys would be fucked if something happened to us.

I cannot.  It's two different things.

You either have a utilitarian mindset, and all of this is good.
Or you have a moral mindset, and all of this is bad.

I have no interest in judging it nor justifying it nor changing it.  It's history unfolding before our eyes, and all we are really doing is 1) enjoying its benefits and 2) bitching about it.

It's fascinating, but it's beyond my silly comprehension.

Ya know, I was whining last year about all of this, and Stark said something to me.

he said if we weren't doing this now, China would be "finding WMD" in Mexico and Canada in 20 years.  They'd stage some BS, blame them, and take over.  They'd quietly surround us.  Then they would make a move on us.  We'd have foreign occupiers.  Our land and industry and families destroyed.

he said that nations do this, and you're either eating or being eaten.  I laid in bed that night and suddenly it all made sense.  THe people leading this country know more about the complexities of keeping 300 mil people living well, than I ever will.  And since we're the only remaining superpower, they're sure doing something right.

I realized then - there are 2 mindsets - utilitarian and moral - and they will never be in agreement.  I gave up trying to see the "right" thing, and grew the fvck up and started focusing on what keeps us strong.

That in itself seems selfish, unless you can show that protection of North America is in the overall best interest of the safety and security of the world's future.

Are you saying that Matt Canning should get out of Thunder Bay, stop watching CBC for a while and do the same?

It is selfish, that is what is going to secure our future oil supply and put bases in position to keep those oil supplies safe. It's all about the future survival of our way of life....and that is what is important to me.

Comparing Korea to Iraq, very very bad analogy.  The Koreans wanted us in Korea, there was a civil war.  The Iraqis were invaded by us, for no legitimate reason, they do not want us there.

240 or Bust and all others, check this out:

After learning about the nature of most people, I think we need a predominantly right wing system which leans to the left in intelligent manners.  Not blindly following any one system exactly.  This is just how I see it as part of my utilitarian world view.

I'm a utilitarian, so I believe in the system which offers the most utility.  Legalizing drugs may be the system or maybe it isn't.  All I know is that the current system involving both drugs and guns is not working.

Note: it appears that I am pro-gun control based on that post, and I am absolutely NOT pro-gun control.  Guns in the hands of the people is the difference between freedom and slavery.

As a utilitarian I do not feel it is necessarily socially responsible to exclude speaking about steroids in a magazine that promotes it through pictures and training routines.

Yep, as a utilitarian I just don't see it being practical.  Nice idea though.  Kind of like socialism.

[I am] VERY much so [libertarian], but perhaps more utilitarian.  Libertarianism is more morally defensible, but utilitarianism is ultimately more pragmatic and as a result, more moral (in my opinion).

Discuss.

They must hold guns to the heads of the iraqis that take pictures with the troops and thank them for what they are doing huh?
