Regarding what in particular?

For a start, about war heros like Jason Pegg?

About war heros like Jason Pegg?

First off, if he is truly fighting for freedom, such as freedom of speech, he should by all rights accept people's speech which may not be supportive of him.  As for Jason, we are also free to support him or not.  I've already stated my opinions on this thread and also already pointed out that I will agree that this thread is not the time or the place to necessarily speak on the topic of war.  So while I don't take back anything I said, in hindsight I would have or should have posted it in another thread.

Here is just such a thread:

http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=157933.0

The problem is, topics don't attract as many posters unless they are in the G&O board!

True, and in this case it happened to be by Bluto and I, but when do threads like this not get off topic?  I've seldom found that threads relating to controversial topics will stay on the original topic.

So you recognize this thread being about a war hero amongst us?

The topic didn't start out controversial, it was to honor the service of Jason Pegg and recognize his wartime injury. You guys had the option of starting another thread against the war, instead you guys insulted the man.

Not cool. If you don't like the war, fine, but don't take it out on the people that are doing what their government asks them to.

Seems like these guys, much like a fat chick staring at a prom dress, can't simply appreciate something, ought to run their mouths simply to hear themselves talking >:(

No.  I don't see Jason as being a war hero any more than I would see one of Hitler's soldiers as being a hero (extreme example, but you get the point).  Whether the long term result of what Jason did will have profound and positive effects on the safety and security of the world is not something that I can use to come to terms with the USA's actions in Iraq - not at this point in my life.  Possibly later if/when I realize that I am naive in my idealism, but I just can't say "the end justifies the means".

A couple of word close to the speech I got from a chick I dumped last month.

What is a war hero then "Matt C"?

Someone who does the same thing that Jason does, but for a morally justifiable cause.  And while morality may not be objective, sometimes there are a lot less shades of gray than there are in the Iraq war (also a great name for a gay Florida based rock band).

Please forgive me for having a hard time coming to terms with the deaths of [very conservatively] 76,000 Iraqis for the sake of "freedom".

Your entire way of life is preserved by men like Jason making the ultimate sacrifice every 20 years or so.

Would you like this to go away?

Been reading this thread, interesting stuff.

That's pretty vague, Chaos...what their government asks them to. Are you suggesting that Jason's government can never be wrong, in the things they ask him to do? And that soldiers such as Jason can never be morally culpable for their actions, so long as they are just doing what their government has asked them to do? I'm not saying what Jason has done is wrong, I'm just saying that claiming one's actions are necessarily OK because their government has asked them to do it is a very slippery slope.

I'm sure Jason is a great person, and a great soldier, and the country needs men like him to survive, flourish and maintain the status quo, but not every soldier is automatically a hero or a great man, and not every government request of its soldiers is automatically just and honorable.

what's funny....

those of you saying you wouldn't serve now because you don't agree with the current reason of conflict.....what makes me believe you still would join if there was a good cause?

A warrior never search's for an excuse of "why nots".  Guess what....you're not a warrior..... but don't look at it as being a bad thing....just don't get in the way of those who are willing.  Otherwise, your comforts of life that you take for granted will be taken away.

From my vantage point you can be a soldier by picking your causes.  I would still be in the military to this day had I believed in what I was working for.

I just talked to a friend of mine who I did basic training with at the gym today.  He served in Afghanistan shortly after I quit.  He was not in denial at all about the reasons for the Afghanistan invasion.  He knew it was totally based on opium profits.  He pointed out that the production has only gone up since our participation there.  I was glad to see that at least he understood the true reason why he put his life on the line.

Yes. We get all of Canadas War Profits in exchange for some of our hippie draft dodgers. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Hey argue on another site about the war, man this is tribute Jason Pegg who almost gave the ultimate price for fighting for AMERICA, OUR COUNTY.  Regardless, what the war stands in your mind......to each there own...so lets get this back on track and thank Jason Pegg a true hero!!!I thank you Jason for everything you have done for me and my family and friends, and for the "getbig" family, we are truly blessed to have soldiers like you and not QUITTERS like Matt C. (you quit the military, your the bottom of the bucket bro, if you start something for our country then finish it, if we had more people like you we wouldn't have the liberty to do what we are doing right now..Someday some of you should look up the word respect and try it sometime...IF you dont agree, fine..find another thread and make 14 pages of "your uneducated opinions and ignorant posts" and leave this for tribute thread for OUR (excuse me, MY hero Jason Pegg....Just a thought!--so anyways back on track..Thank you Jason!

(Jason its Ben G. (BIG BEN) from Ball State--hope your doing o.k.--hey Chris J...(red head) has my number, call me if you when you can, or write!

240 or Bust could be more helpful in discussing the dynamics of how laundered drug money sustains the US economy.
