Its esp pathetic when you have to listen to it from medical profs that are clearly ignorant.
It is a shame. really.
Truth be told, though, this comes from a combination of factors. I went to one of the top 5 rated medical schools in the US, and never once heard a word about anabolic steroids, not in my pharmacology class, not on the wards, nowhere. But why would I?? The actual
medical indications for anabolic steroids were essentially non-existent, and still are, really. Sure, I learned a heck of a lot about them back then, but that was only because I had a strong personal interest in them--at every level--both pharmacologic and endocrinologic.
So it is not a surprise that most doctors are not knowledgeable about them. What bothers me most, though, is the lack of desire to actually learn more about them, especially if you have a patient that takes them. Sure, it is a physician's
responsibility to talk to you about the risks involved, but the decision to take them is, ultimately, yours to make. And many doctors just don't have the balls to say they simply don't know the answer to something. They would rather spout out statements that are not backed up by any legitimate data than to actually investigate the answers themselves, or simply just say "I don't really know."
And no, I wouldn't expect any rational physician to write you a script for them. But in the end, they should own up and help you stay as healthy as possible while you are on.
Just my thoughts.
