7000 ppl die every day in America.  1/3 from cancer, 1/2 from heart disease, and the others from various causes.  In a strictly UTILITARIAN sense (greatest good for all), is 3000 lives worth control over 80% of 50 to 75 $ trillion worth of oil?

It's funny how so many of us don't give a shit about others, so long as we have our standard of living.  I'm one of them.

It's because our standard of living is so much higher that the rest of the world's, and has been acheived, in part, by taking advantage of much of the rest of the world.  But most of us don't understand that reality until later in life.

So we grow up thinking the way we live is "normal", and grow used to our relative luxuaries (like electricity, running water, medical care, automobiles, 3 meals a day, etc).  Then at some point we gain a true understanding the way things work.  Then we are faced with a choice:  be "moral" and trade our nice comfortable middle-class lifestyle for an African or Asian or Latin American or eastern european type existance, or say "fuck it", accept reality, and fight for what we have.

Actually, in understanding the world we live in, having a Democratic country in the middle of an extremely middle Eastrem run environment (run by extremists and religious fanatics) is not a bad thing. If you live in the U.S. or most Western countries you understand (at least today) that oil is a not only a very improtant requirement to survive but a necessity. If you researched what oil provides besides gasoline you would find an abundance of products that you yourself use and rely on (the weights that you train with are manufacture by the use of oil). This question was posed to me a few years ago.... "If suddenly gasoline was $5.00 a gallon, $10.00, $15.00 a gallon, what would you want your government to do to get you oil and gasoline. The answer. ANYTHING...

So, until new energy sources are developed oil is a necessity. And just for the record, not only Mr. Bush believed that there were WMD in Iraq but so did every other Western country.
