Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine II up next?
« on: January 24, 2008, 05:58:36 AM »
“My next fight will probably be in the summer and I am thinking about Jardine since Jackson is already scheduled to fight (Forrest Griffin). I can’t wait around (for Jackson). I love the sport and I think I have a couple years left in me. I’m a very competitive person. I don’t even like to lose at things I’m not good at.” - Chuck

Serious question: what is he going to suddenly do different to now beat Jardine?  He is one-dimensioanl...sprawl & brawl.  I think people have his number and Jardine exposed it.  I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt he will ever regain hi title...

i think that chuck just wanted to ko jardine with every punch he threw and never had a good strategy...i think if jardine starts throwing those leg kicks again chuck will take him down just like he did with silva, i was suprised he didn't do that in the first fight, but he underestimated jardine and in the end it cost him a victory...but make no doubts about it, if these 2 fight again...

CHUCK WILL BEAT JARDINE

This first fight was just on Spike a couple of nights ago. I actually misssed the PPV originally. I have to be honest Chuck from the get go looked very unmotivated and bored to be in the cage the whole night. If you compare the Chuck that showed up against Silva vs the Chuck that showed up against Jardine it almost looked like totally different individuals. Not so much from a style perspective but from a focus perspective. I don't think Chuck is as one dimensional as people say. I think the way he fights is one dimensional but I really think he has a lot more tools then he uses in his fights. He has a great wrestling background I wish he would use it more. With that being said I still think Chuck losses to Rampage 4 out of 5 times based on stylistic match up....

Liddell is one dimensional and he didn't look any different when he fought Silva.  The differences is that Silva played Liddells game and kept coming forward, leaving himself open to counter punches.  Considering that Liddell had the longer reach this was a terrible strategy.  Silva said he watched tapes of Liddells fights but from the way he fought it doesn't seem like he took anything away from them.  His mistake was the idea that he could rely on his punching power and hopefully in one of the various exchanges get lucky and knock out Liddell.  Liddells victory had more to do with bad strategy on the part of Silva than it did to any changes he may have made.
You cant deny that Liddell has punching power and because of that fighters shouldn't be looking to stand and trade with him.  Jardine to his credit figured this out and stayed outside, attacking the legs and by doing so he took some of the steam off of Liddells punches.   This strategy also limited Liddells movement by minimizing his use of angles.  Angles are his bread and butter and the means by which he tricks opponents into taking an awkward position susceptible to counter punches.

chuck for the moment is off pain killers and that is the only thing that kept him from taking a fight serious.  Nothing else.  Easy breezy Japaneezy!

i think chuck takes him this time. he is a MUCH better fighter than jardine. if jardine didn't run the last time when he got hurt he would have gotten knocked out.

one more thing. everyone says liddel is so one dimensional and everything yet nobody stops him at it so how can you fault him. he does the one thing is great at. nobody criticizes someone if all they are good at is bjj

thats cause everybody puts bjj on a pedestal, they make it seem like strikers are second class fighters, but a lot of times bjj guys are great, then they get hit in the face a few times, then they put there tail between there legs and look for a way out

Sorry not sure what fight you were watching but if by being bloodied is a sign of making it look easy then I agree with you. This fight was much closer then people say it was. It was just on Spike last week. Rewatch the fight I am not saying Chuck won but by no means was it a dismantling at the hands of Jardine. Chuck lost a fight that people thought should have been easy for him.
