What has the internet got to do with Olympia placings?? Do you think fans actually have any say in an outcome?? NO

With the internet you can actually talk TODAY with people who were there at the show 28 years ago, fans, judges even competitors themselves!!!! from every coners of the globe...

Not the same as having to wait for a Weider publication 3 months after the show to know who won.....

Who knew?

get it?

GOOD.

Tom Platz was the biggest Arnold's ass kisser if you look closelly, I wish Dennis Tinerinno could come to this board and tell us some interesting episodes from that show,

Even Arnold himself (now) regrets entering the mr.O in 1980, but he's to proud (ego) to admit the real reasons...
He knows that 1980 is the only "stain in his jacket"in his bb carreer.

Back then there wasn't internet or anything like it, just Weider publications, and history belongs to those who write it" .

Can you tell us when Arnold stated that he regrets having entered the 1980 Olympia? I have never read this or heard him state this.

Arnold never said he regreted it. He stated that maybe he went into it for the wrong reasons.

Yes.

Zasne later had lunch with Arnold, and asked him why he urged him to compete despite his injury.

"C'mon, Frank," Arnold said. "It's competition-there are no friendships when there is competition."

The words qwere something to that effect.

Ultimately, Zane understood and came to terms with it.

When Frank Zane won the 1979 Mr. Olympia, Arnold was doing the TV coverage of it for one of the Networks-cannot recall but it may have been NBC.

So, Arnold starts interviewing Frank about the 79 O win and the first question is;

Arnold: So Frank, how did it feel to win the Mr. Olympia contest today?

Frank: Well Arnold, it almost felt as good as when I beat you!

BOOM!!!!!!!

Frank said Arnold was very upset, and that he believes this was the true reason Arnold entered the 1980 O, to beat Frank Zane for making himlook like a monkey on TV.

It should also be noted for the record that CBS spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in production costs to film the 1980 Mr. O, and after everything that happened refused to show even 5 seconds of the show-THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE SHOW.

I bet CBS does not even know they still have that footage, they could make a gold mine by selling that show today.

IF they even have it. Don't quote me, but I think I read somewhere to the effect that CBS no longer has footage of the contest.  :'(

He also said he'd entered to show that "Mentzer and Coe cannot knock my training."

Coe was incredulous over this bc he could not recall knocking A's training and thought, "We were friends."

From his own mouth.....listen the the archived PBW broadcast. A question I asked him specifically.

Well, Arnold never said that himself-

That was a reason that some people felt Arnold entered the 1980 O-but that never came out of Arnold's mouth. Many thought that Arnold wanted to teach Mentzer a lesson becuase Mentzer was saying the Arnold's 20 sets per body part was bullshit training. I think this may very well be true= but Arnold has never personally stated that.

The Zane reason is straight from Zanes own mouth-he said that. It was pure speculation on Zane's part-but I know how Arnold thinks, and that is how he thinks (see below).

I KNEW that when Jesse Venture won the Govenorship of MN that Arnold would run for Govenorship of CA sooner or later-to prove he could do what Ventura did.

He didn't say he regretted it per se. Just that maybe the reason he did go into the show was for the wrong reasons. Maybe you should listen to it again.  ;)

Listen who do you think will win the Mr.O and then regret it?

As far as i know
Arnold is known as the greates bb ever
However, Lee Haney is known as the one who broke his record, won 8 mr.O, and most fans have no problem with any of his wins....

while Arnold has 7 Mr.O, and there's a lot I mean a lot of controversy about his last one.

Was it worth it?

What amazed me after watching the documentary is that Arnold was already at that point (1980) being treated as though he was a Hollywood A star. There were a ton of professional photographers in the lockeroom taking all kinds of shots of Arnold and all the other guys (who were in a seperate room in the back) were pretty much being treated as second class citizens.

Arnold won it before he even stepped on stage. Mr. Weider made sure of that. Arnold was on his way to stardom and Joe knew it. Joe was kind of like Vince McMahon. It was a good business decision to have Arnold win. It brought a lot of publicity to bodybuilding.

Wow, Arnold looks so SMALL and skinny here-cut, but not big.

Almost a swimmer like build.

Where did his thick chest go to, and the legs are even smaller.

That's him at about 215lbs rather then 235lbs.

Arnold was pretty veiny if you see close up shots. The only guy who looks veiny from a distance are Coleman and Dillet with there freaky garden hose veins.
