How the hell does one learn Chinese

It sounds like such garble.  Every other language I can clearly pick out the words... not Chinese, aside from a few words, it turns into garble listening to a conversation real fast.   Listening to Chinese is like someone making fun of someone speaking Chinese.

Vietnamese, yes... Arabic, yes...  That's not fucking hard...  I've been around bro   I can sit in on a conversation in Thai and understand the jist of what's being said and who can't pick out words here and there from most other tongues?  easy.  I've been around the Chinese for as long as the Thai and it comes across as mostly gibberish aside from a couple very simple phrases.  I worked in an environment with Chinese for years.  nothing... that's wacked shit right there.

yea, I watched/helped some Chinese pick up English and they did it pretty fast actually.  At the same time they were trying to teach me some Chinese and I would pick up the individual words they would tell me but to hell if I could follow any conversation.  That is some seriously messed up garble once they get going.

hahaha i travelled once from shanghai to qingdao, i booked a room at a nice hotel near the beach @ qingdao and i asked like 10 times "HAI CHIN HOTEL?" "YES SIR HAI CHIN HOTEL"

took the plane, arrived to qingdao and noticed that nobody speak english so i saw this chinese taxi driver "ni hao, HAI CHIN HOTEL"...he looked at me, moved his head like "sure lets go"
1 hour later i was outside HI-SENSE factory, and the chinese man repeating "HAI CHIN HAI CHIN"

I will say this, it is a beautiful language actually.  I like the sounds and emotional emphasis of it.  It's not unpleasant to listen to, just complicated.  It doesn't seem like it's an efficient language either.  When I watch a movie with subtitles, it seems like they have to say twice as much as the subtitle.  And the characters, oh hell, that's got to take more effort than English.
