So I'm at Red Lobster tonight.  I admit, I'm definitely not a seafood guy.  Growing up in the trailer park, I rarely ate any fish that I didn't catch myself, and lobster never came around our canal.

Anyway, I had lobster tonight with my steak and I must admit, I wasn't all that impressed.  I know it's supposed to be what girls order in order to owe a guy sex.  Some status symbol that comes with ordering it.  But it pretty much tasted like what I believe a Krabby Patty should taste like.  Thoughts on lobster?

Live Lobster Tail Sashimi

the only right way to eat it.

Living on the new england coast I can say that eating red lobster is like going to white castle and determining that you don't like beef...

10 minutes from my house there is an all you can eat lobster house...65 bucks

And those that think its too much work just haven't had enough practice.  I can take the meat out of the tail and both claws in 30 seconds...mmm

If I'm eating just one; if I go to the buffet I'll get sick if I dip every piece in butter after 4 lobsters...

Lobster is good. Crack the tails put in in foil with butter(and maybe a squeeze of lemon) and throw em on the grill with your steaks. You'll be eating good.

I guess you would, spending a year's income on one meal wouldn't make much sense for ya.  Peanut butter and Jelly or Mayonaise sandwiches are more your style.

I had steamed lobster when I was in Boston.. I dipped it in butter and washed it down with beer.. Not enough meat for something that expensive imo, but it was still good shit. I also had fried lobster rolls, which tasted no different from crab cakes.

First time I ever had Lobster was in Miami and Big John Studd taught me how to eat it.  I didn't think it was anything special.  I then went to Einsenada, Mexico and had it with some friends and it is not bad when you dip it in refried beans.  Other than that I have never ordered it myself.  A gym I was building on Oahu back in the early 90's had the only live lobster tanks in the whole state.  They had a couple hundred lobsters in there all the time.  Different tanks for different size lobsters.  They had a 21 lb lobster that someone bought for a Christmas party at the restaurant across the street in Restaurant Row.  They put the claw at the top of the Christmas tree.  It was HUGE.  It was the biggest claw ever.  They said the lobster had to have been at least 100 years old and I guess the meat is kind of tough.  It fed 20+ people.

Lobster bisque is my favorite soup... but good bisque is very hard to find.  Good bisque should have lumps of whole meat in it!  :P

Lobster is good. I don't go to Black Lobster, but I do go to OutBack and get the 3 Broiled Tails for $24.99. If you're in the Northeast, try to a Lobsterfest in Montauk/Hamptons or anything north of Boston along the shoreline.

Being a native of Maryland, I dig Crab legs and Crabcakes more than lobsters. Good crabcakes are tough to find anywhere, especially heavy on the jumbo lump crabmeat and light on the filler. Great Crabcake place in Lanham, MD and the Golden Bull in Hyattsville or Gaithersburg is not bad. O'Donnells in Bethesda kicks ass too. Never had a good crabcake in a chain seafood place.
And 240, enjoy the local catches down there: Marlin and Dolphin (Mahi Mahi). Lobsters come from up north. By the time they get to Florida, they're either dead or suicidal.

Thanks Lobsterphone for the Crabcake listings in Maryland!

Not all Lobsters come from Maine; I only wish that were the case.  When you order any seafood in a restaurant feel free to ask where it was caught.  Any restaurant should be happy to tell you.  If they hem, haw, or cop and attitude don't eat there.  If the waiter says he does not know tell him to ask; the chef will usually know.

My gf and I used to go out to dinner all the time in FL.  Once we went out to a place neither of us had been before and saw lobster on the menu.  We went to grad school together in New England and both loved lobster.  She asked the waiter if it was Maine lobster or Florida lobster.  He reported back that it was FL lobster!  My gf balked and ordered something else.  :-X

Lesson: do not assume that all lobster was caught in Maine.
