Controversial Absolut Vodka Ad
« on: April 07, 2008, 08:41:18 PM »
This ad was eventually pulled.  Many folks here believe we are going to fall under some sort of NAU.  I disagree.  While I think such a measure is possible, it will only be temporary.  I believe we will see Balkanization of North America which various racial, cultural, and even religious groups declaring independence in certain regions on crushing numbers in the area alone.  This commercial here is just one of the many various Secessionist attitudes that have thrust themselves into popular culture.

And here is an article about it from a Right-Wing point of View.

a long ass time ago, I worked with these two Mexican dudes I called Hose-A and Hose-B who rattled on about how we were on Mexican land and Aztlan this and that bla bla... I finally just said, WTF, have you covered this theory with American Indians?  They were like, "well no" and I said fine, STFU until you've covered this crap with the people who have a legit bitch.  Last I heard of their stupid theory from them.

That ad is pathetic.
We purchased that land from Mexico...I believe around 1848.  There was an exchange of $ and a forgiveness of debt.  Nice way for Absolut to stir the pot in a sensitive time...assholes.  Texas was already independent from Mexico after a series of battles in the late 1830s and asked the US government to be annexed.

I'm againt the Aztlan thing but to be fair, this is Absolut's MO...  They are probably not actually pro Aztlan.  It's not really that big of a deal, they play the shock AD from various angles all the time.

Sadly, there will be people who buy the BS and get all riled up about it.  :'(
Just another diversionary tactic to keep people from realizing the root causes of their challenges.

If you give a man a gallon of fuel for the day he will travel 20 miles.

If you con a man into buying fuel pills with his gallon of petroleum he will travel 17 miles, fuck up the internals of his combustion engine and be financial worse off.

Some blogger came up with the rebuttal ad.

Not sure what the agency was thinking with that promo.  It was produced only in Mexico, and guess the header was supposed to mean "in a perfect world..."  but I don't know, it came across to me more like "when you're shit blasted your shitty world looks better."

I think your perspective is somewhat skewed. In a previous thread you accused me of "flaunting my wealth".
I did nothing of the sort. The reference was not to a bank account, but rather to a frame of mind.
Only in that sense, could it be called a flaunting of wealth, ...since, ...that's the only true wealth one has.
I think you're just a little too focussed on money. There are some objective for which money is simply inadequate

Wait a minute... did you mean the map I posted? Or my alcohol message?  The map is just something that was being passed around the last few days, not necessarily my political take on anything.  It does help illustrate what a disaster that ad was though.
