No, that's not correct. Not sure where you came up with the $50K figure....no pro shows have a sanction fee of $50K.
[...]
The rules state that the sanction fee be paid and the prize money be put into escrow before the show takes place...not sure of the time frame, but I'm sure it's not 6 months....

OK, what is the sanction fee?

Even NY and LA struggle to fill seats relying on the local fan base.  Why even rent auditoriums for the smaller shows.

perhaps if they advertised locally...

while I did see some ads for the LA Fitness Expo, it was not obvious that there was a pro bodybuilding contest part of it.  couldn't miss the MMA promotion though.

the MD camp is saying the Sean Ray's 202 and under is about to be cancelled. VYO-SUCK is finished and so is sean gay.

the deadline for the show contract has long passed...bob why are you allowing your boy sean to slide by and not release the competitor list?

bye bye 202 and under ny show
Enjoy your dish...

Dude, Vyotech isnt doing that bad. As a distributor, we have moved more Vyotech products in the first 3 months of this year than in the last 6 months of last year. Not bad at all.  Do I need to send you some Goat Whey, Absolution or Viraloid. Might calm you down a little. Remember, Goat Whey doesnt make you fart...

Pro shows cost quite a number to have. Sanction fees, prize money, officials, hotel rooms, insurance, staging, lighting, promotion and much more. You need sponsors, a good fan base around the area, and so on.  The promoters have promoted NPC shows for a long time in that area, but the cost of the IFBB show probably was too much in terms of how many tickets were sold.

Ron - are you saying the putting on pro shows is not worthwhile?

the sanction fee is a completely arbitrary amount.   perhaps if the IFBB lowered the sanction fee, the contests would be more viable, there would be more contests, and the IFBB would make more money.

Unfortunately all it'd take is a strong marketing firm and little effort from the athletes and then it'd be a completely different story

I don't want them to lower the sanction fee...I want them to lose it all together and start putting on the shows themelves. Every sporting event put's on their own events, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc.....BB should be no different. IFBB put's on the show, hires a promoter to promote and is in control of their own marketing, etc...

Why would they do that?  Right now it's all upside for them:  they make their fee whether the show makes money or not, while assuming none of the risk.

Good idea Chick. IFBB would be solely responsible for the show and the "athletes" involved.

..But aren't "promoters" much like "NHL/NBA" "franchises"?

No....they're more like "managers" of different teams under the umbrella of the organization (NBA)

Even franchise owners are under certain rules and regulations...promoters can do what they want....when they're good, it's good for all...when they suck...it sucks for all, including the federation.

You just answered your own question. Promoting NPC shows is easy because every competitor brings 5-20 friends, family, or gymrats to the show. The problem with promoting a smaller Pro show is that with the exception of the big names, competitors are unlikely to draw any fans at all.  Combine that with zero marketing and you have a tiny audience.

The only shows that do any real marketing are the Ironman, Arnold, Aussie Pro and the Olympia.

Wayne Demilia used to advertise the Night of Champions in the Village Voice and other newspapers, there would be ads in Flex and Muscle & Fitness, and posters in every gym in New York City. That's how he filled the Beacon up year after year.

It's very important for Musclephone to send out such an important message as early as possible in their effort to make sure that not a single person unnecessarily books non-refundable Memorial Weekend airfare to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Just imagine the mass confusion and commuter hysteria had the news broken 20 minutes later on Getbig.com.

Thanks, Musclephone!

THe show shoeld never have been put on the schedule to begin with....

The rules state that the sanction fee be paid and the prize money be put into escrow before the show takes place...not sure of the time frame, but I'm sure it's not 6 months....

That said, no contracts have been signed to do the show from athletes, only in the event the show was canceled from the 6 week point in to the show, would the athletes that contracted to do the show, be eligable for any compensation from the sanction fee paid.

Well you must mean no show except the Olympia.  It is way more than that.  Well lets say when Wayne was paying for it the sanction fee was way more.  Also, I would think the Arnold would be more than but maybe not.
