Honestly the thing about this is totally brilliant, what it does is tie everything to the dollar so it becomes important to the entire world.  Lets say inflation completely takes the dollar away to the point it is useless, how much buying power would China have if we repaid them with shit?  Nothing.  So it is in everyones best interest to not let the dollar become  non existence.  Of course they dont mind if it dips some, but the destruction of the dollar could not happen.

I myself completely miss the entire point here also. How does borrowing even more money, getting further in debt, buying more Chinese made goods - help the economy?

To me it almost seems like a popularity exercise for Bush, as present company excluded, there must be a legion of dumbasses who have no clue about the economic state who will simply recall Bush gave them $600.

It doesnt help out you and me per say, however the more dollars China owns the more they want the dollar to be worth something, so it is in their best interest to keep the dollar from sinking too low, basically it is like an insurance policy from the dollar ever completly crashing like other currencies have in the past.
