he does what he can, he can't force these guys to get health insurance and come to meetings to discuss forming a union, these guys are adults and make their own decisions.

If he was a rep for the Teamsters, then they would have already fired his ass, but then again thats a very strong union. He represents pro bodybuilders, what do you really expect? What little leverage they do have, is offset by the total lack of unity among themselves. All in all he does an pretty good job overall I guess.

yes he is, he does above and beyond what has been done in the past and I bet it isn't easy...he loves the sport and it shows so good for him...and good for the pros as well.

no offense to them but some pros are like sloths and care only about eating training sleeping and drugs or partying....you can't force these guys to do anything...

In some cases, yes... also shawn or tom platz would have been great athletes reps too.

It's not about "forcing" them to do anything. It's pretty simple they have no ability to strike whatsoever. The powers to be know that and take advantage of it.

Bob's a politician and does as good a job as he can.   Ask him any question about bb and his answer will resemble something like the following:

"Some do, some don't.....neither is right, neither is wrong.......black is white and white is black......some go up, some go down........some follow rules, some don't follow rules.......there are good points and there not so good points."

The mistake is to think of the athletes rep position in the same capacity as a union rep, in reality his position is more like human resources at any corporation.  Human resources management serves as a liaison between corporate and the employees and can act on their behalf but doesn't have to and they have no bargaining power.

Bob ,The one thing I always admired about you is your pro-active.
Most guys turn pro, and say what can bodybuilding do for me
Bob you on the other hand said.I am a pro bodybuilder, how can I use this vehicle( your pro card) to make the most of my life
You did movies, made probuilder weekly vidoes ,your the major represenitive for bodybuilding.com, your a spokes person for and representive for pro bodybuilders, and you have you shit together.
Bob, you have accomplished alot, and you know what, you deserve it
It couldnt happen to a nicer or more deserving person.
Keep up the good work Bob.

For the most part.   Will never take a definite side unless it favors "the industry".   Ask Bob the following, "Bob, do you have to take steriods to be a pro bb?"   He'll answer, "People can do what they want.  Some use drugs, some don't.....happens in every sport......do you have to live in a trailer to drive a race car?"

I would say Chic is a better IFBB rep than he is the IFBB athlete rep.

IS CHICK A GOOD ATHLETES REP????

It depends on your point of view.  To Jim Manion and Ben Weider, Bob is a very good athlete's rep.  ;)

Wayne Demilia is less than complimentary about Bob. He always tells people that Bob lacks the mental faculties to fulfil a role like this properly.

Wayne frequently brags about times past when he would 'own' chick and terrify him into submission.

He has said that Bob is simply a patsy and stooge for the IFBB. I am not siding with Wayne but Wayne does not think Bob is remotely capable of the bravery, lateral thinking, and genuine concern for those he supposedly represents, to do the job even slightly effectively.

I personally cannot judge Bob. What do these 'athletes' think about their rep? Are they bowled over by his sterling work on internet forums and devotion to Tom Prince?

Look at who Bob is. He was competitive many years ago but never figured in the top tier. He won a controversial masters contest and is now doing the rounds as a commentator. He is hardly representative of the top guys.

The way the IFBB works a competitor would be an idiot to rock the boat or be seen to be against anything the IFBB does. The pro committee is composed of people who promote shows and get involved in the judging process. Therefore, all the lads know they don't touch that position with a 10 foot pole. They don't attend meetings because the reps job is to identify and report on recalcitrant athletes. The reward for being outspoken is 8th place. Everyone knows this.

Because even the dense athletes won't do the rep job, Jim Manion had to do the right thing so he appointed his mate, the upwardly mobile Bob Chick, to the position. Bob jumped at the chance because it gives him status in the game and he needs this for his CV. End of story. He is the stooge for Manion and apologist for the IFBB and everyone is happy except the athletes.

Bottom line is we get more of the same so expect more controversial decisions, etc. All Bob can do is present the IFBB decisions to the athletes instead of the other way round. In other words, the whole deal is a sham.

I think that's pretty funny...especially since Wayne was quick to take concern when I was putting together a meeting to see if there was enough interest for a Union....caling athletes, threatening contracts, etc....

Bottom line is...look where Wayne is now, and look where I am.....who got "owned" exactly?

In truth, Bob wouldn't catch any shit at all if they simply changed his title to "IFBB Public Relations Director".  Everyone knows what he does and doesn't do and who he represents. It's the hypocrisy of the "athletes rep" title, like he's some kinda union rep for the athletes or something, that bothers most people.
