Question - How do contests place the pros?
« on: May 13, 2008, 03:45:30 PM »
That some Pro shows only place to 15 yet NY Pro has the men placed to 18 and the rest are 19??? Seems they make up the rules as they go along.T hey only pay top 5 in Grand Prix shows but often announce Top 6 to come on stage.

OK, I will take the fact that some of you are not the smartest in math. But in many contests you have at least 7-9 judges, which score the athletes. The average 5 make up the score. And they rate the competitors from 1-15. Anyone left, gets a 16.  The more competitors there are, the better chance of someone placing 16, 17th, 18, etc.

That is because of the point system.  For instance, if one competitor gets a 1-2-2-1-2-1-2-1-2, from nine judge, you take off the top and bottom two, which leaves you with 2-2-2-1-1 = 8

If judges vary, you can have more than 15 placings, etc.

Now, for other shows that have more than x amount of competitors, only the top 15 get to go on to the finals. That happens in a few shows around the year.

Show some respect guys.

Dude - ok, lets try it from the other end

15-15-14-15-15 = 74
14-14-15-16-16 = 75
16-16-16-15-15 = 78
16-16-16-16-16 = 80

Remember, there are more than 5 judges! So the scores can be off by a point.

Technically, if you have 28 competitors, you can have 28 different scores...

There is no such thing as a Pro Ranking, it is something that the media puts up to rank the pros, aka the RAS Statistics, etc.

The Pro Ranking, like the one I have on this site (when it is updated), is for fun, to see how a panel of experts, when they decide to rank the competitors, on how the rank them.  On any given day, any bodybuilder can beat another competitor, however, it makes some sense that some bodybuilders are more equal than other bodybuilder in physique, symmetry, conditioning and muscularity.

For instane, Kai Greene a few years back never made the top ten, and now he wins shows.

You never know.
