Technically, Bush gets more deference from other branches of government on the Iraq issue.  he wouldn't get near as much on domestic issues.

I'm saying that he alone may not have enough power to change domestic drilling.  I think the opposition from the democrats and environmentalists are stronger than you think.
The real question is does he want to.  That I cannot answer and I admit I am suspicious about the connection to the oil companies as well.

Bush did not raise taxes more than any other president.  Please reseach before you post here.

This war has cost us greatly...perhaps incalcuable #s.
I do think the blame for this is placed on the administration and the poor intelligence gathered.  I'm with some of the dems on this one (although the majority of them voted to give Bush authorization to invade).

Taxation & regulation with its negative affect on our professional working people and small businesses is the main reason I absolutely cannot vote for Obama.  Giving the gov more power and increasing gov intervention in most areas is a very big mistake in this country.  Remember Obama may be president for 4-8 yrs but all that power is passed to the next administration as well.  We cannot set socialistic precidents in this country.  It was not what we were founded upon.
We need to follow our constitution and cut gov spending.  Our gov should work for the people and reps & dems alike are not adhering to constitutional principles.

Wrong.  How do you think that 5 trillion will be paid back?    Increased taxes are one way.   His spending spree is the largest in US history and we will hardly ever recover.......

They are powerless to stop Bush.  The left has been crying about his spending, his war march, for 5 years, and he gets on CNN and says "So?"

If Bush WANTED to dig for oil domestically, you can bet your ass he'd do it.

I don't see how you assign power to lib groups when Bush openly admits he'd still be in iraq if 99% of America was opposed to it.  You're saying he cares what ultra-lib groups think?

Completely agree.

To me, it's a fairly easy choice.

4 more years of failed Bush/republican policies or a change in direction.

All this talk about a tax-happy Obama is nonsense.

The government is BORROWING more in our names than any tax proposed.

If Clinton could manage to balance the budget and start paying down the debt AFTER HE RAISED TAXES, why can't Obama do it as well.

Republicans treat government as a fire sale--privatize the commons, get rid of taxes and regulations and free lunches for all.

It's time to grow up, act like adults and pay our debts.

Problem is that every time a new tax is created for a specific outlet it never goes away..

.. even after the toll road is built
.. the program has ceased
.. the project finished
.. the funding spent

Once new taxes are created or current one raised liberals claw tooth and nail to protect it forever.

he will spend $12 billion this month in Iraq.

Also in June, july, aug, sept, oct, nov, dec, and january.  $12 bil every month, and possibly more, as he's trying to sneak in a new war spending bill today before the kennedy news broke.

I think that's why ppl are still bitching.

Reagan, Clinton and Bush cut income taxes.  But that's a good point.  I would like to see the stats on how many taxes are repealed over the years.

Anyone voting for Obama needs to look a little closer at just what that would really mean.

Apart from his ridiculous positions re: America's enemies and his willingness to meet and have tea with them, he's going to make us ALL pay...

No I'm worried about some socialist asshole who says stuff like

We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times...and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK."

We can't? Isn't this America? This guy will pander to the international community over  the rights of his own countrymen . He's a major danger...far worse then Bush. Who cares how we heat our homes. I'm sure Canadians aren't freezing...plenty of mid sized SUV's on German highways..plus driving at 90 million miles an hour burns a shit ton of gas. This guy is so full of shit.

People are being downsized at work right now under this bush admin.

People are having trouble paying for increasing utility bills for cooling and heating right now under dictator bush.

People are having trouble paying for food right now under dictator bush.

Dont blame this on obama you stupid ass...its happening now.    Just cuz you live off of taxpayers money  (Just like welfare-ites)   you need to pay attention, grunt.

He's asking for a modicum of sacrifice.  That's all.  It is sensible to conserve a high priced scarce commodity like petroleum.  If the US is going to stay on a petrol based energy course into the near future, he makes sense.

We can't keep living like irresponsible teenagers.  Bush's policies are the height of waste and irresponsiblity.  I see his 'stay the course' in national consumption more akin to a type of cancer rather than wise policy.

The spending for this war, as I said, is astronomical and a big mistake.  You are absolutely right about Bush's spending policies.  They needed to be checked a long time ago.

However, increasing and adding taxes are different than $ that needs to be paid back for a war because the taxes could be perminant.

I think all politicians need to have subliminal messages send to them when they are resting..."Spend less of the taxpayers money...follow the constitution...think about the people instead of corporate profits...cut spending....cut spending...cut gov programs...trust the people's will...cut spending"
hahahaha!

Oil is cheaper then Water still. Bottled water will run you about 6.50 a gallon.Gass is around $4.75.

Bush can only veto bills. The congress and senate have decided not to have expanded drilling. This is an ongoing problem that Bush has no control over, he can lobby the senate and congress however they have to pass the bill, before the president can even look at it. The problem with no refineries being built has to do with state and national environmental laws.
I think many of you don't understand how your own government works.
http://thomas.loc.gov/home/lawsmade.bysec/presidential.html

Spending go through the congress. If you have a complaint bring it up with your congressperson.

The Iraq war was passed by the Senate and Congress. Bush didn't act alone.

That's all correct but when you have a rubberstamp congress for over 6 of the 8 years, that distinction you make loses relevance.

The president sets the national tone.  He sets the policies.  That's the way it is and always has been.

You forgot Bush's excessive signing statements where he literally rewrites the law just passed by Congress.

The democrats have the senate and the congress now and instead of opening up drilling they made the environmental regulations for oil production even more stringent.

The supreme court interprets the laws. It just happens to be stacked with conservative judges.
In my opinion, anyone voting should be voting on judicial appointments. This has the largest impact in your daily life and the direction of the country. Governments are so bloated now they have a mind of their own and no political party can really clean them up, because of the employment laws.

Its the same reason spending is out of control.

Yeah I see what you mean.  I think there are no proper restrictions or guidelines for spending.  These politicians get re-elected b/c of the bacon/spending they bring home.  When a senator cries that he'll resign immediately if funding for his state's bridge to nowhere is cut, we have a big problem.

How dare Obama ask me or anybody else to do shit. This guy has been riding the coattails of what many in this country have sacrificed for. My family has bled for the last 90 years so all of us can drive SUV's and enjoy AC. How dare this socialist piece of shit dictate to me what I can drive.  How dare he say we eat to much...fuck him. He wants to walk around at 120 lbs so be it..I'm having steak. I'm not giving my standard of living up so some asshole in the Sudan can waste petrol committing genocide. Its not America's fault life sucks elsewhere.
