I think his point is more that it sends out alarm signals when people are violently anti-gay ..yet, on the other hand, seem to follow a 'sport' that is essentially about male beauty and the cheering of men in g-strings. There is certainly a tension between the two: hate gays/love looking at nearly naked men. Seems that some people may be having 'troubles' reconciling their contrasting feelings.

I would like to thank with all my heart how good the IFBB has been to its gay audience, ever since I began attending shows in the late 70's me and the other gay men in attendance were always made to feel welcome and not have to hide who we are like the public wished us to out on the streets.Many of the IFBB Pros we met were nothing but curteous and warm towards us and it is this attitude that has been instilled in to the athletes by Joe Weider that has kept us coming back in larger numbers every year.I always remember meeting Lee haney and being awe struck at his body and then finding out what a cutie he really was behind the handsome exterior.
