"It is 1939, and Jimmy Fletcher and his father view censored newsreel footage of a German fighter pilot engaged in the Spanish Civil War. Lieutenant Otto Skreamer is a merciless Nazi killer, as deadly on the ground as he is with his Stukagruppe, killing friend and foe, soldier and civilian alike. As war is declared, Jimmy's family experience Major Skreamer's cold-blooded nature first hand, when Jimmy's father is killed whilst helping in the evacuation of Normandy. Jimmy vows revenge, but as a schoolboy there is little he can do until Skreamer strikes again, wiping out a train full of evacuees including Jimmy's mother and sister. Now orphaned, Jimmy runs away from the boarding school he has been placed at and cheats his way into the RAF. Jimmy confronts Skreamer in Crete, but his nemesis escapes. The RAF discover Jimmy's true age and send him back to England. As Jimmy reaches eighteen, a Machiavellian new headmaster at the boarding school volunteers him to work in the coal mines, whilst all his friends are sent for combat training. An accident down the pit leaves Jimmy crippled and unable to join the war effort, but thanks to the intervention of his friends, he is able to visit Germany in the last days of the war. There, he finally confronts his enemy once more, as Skreamer attempts to save the Fuhrer from the Allies by flying to Switzerland."
