and we don't have to pay a single penny for any of it regardless of how rich we are.

so tell me, how exactly is the us 'health system' better?

also in europe we dont have to worry about getting shot, although we do have a knife problem in glasgow (knife stabbing capital of europe if not the world  :()

Do the doctors and other medical personnel in Scotland work for free? If not, then, someone is paying for it.

Then again, all I know about Scotland is what I saw in "Trainspotting." Frankly, I wasn't impressed.

Cool thread man. Currently i live on Curacao, Caribean.. Pretty nice.. 24/7 summer which is very nice, but dont see myself living here for the rest of my life. San Fransisco looks great, so do a couple other places in the states. Not sure about going back to The Netherlands in a couple of years..

Funny to listen to arrogant Europeans try to tear down America for being arrogant.

I lived in Ft Lauderdale for about 3 months even though it was a suite at the Days Inn it was awesome.  I loved it.  I spent quite awhile on the other coast too in Ft. Myers.  I liked the idea so many people I knew had Cigarette boats.  Going to the Bahamas for lunch was fun as heck.  If there is anyone on here that lives there, have you seen the boat called Green Monster.  I had that boat at my disposal whenever I wanted to go out.  The driver was a former world champion Powerboat guy.  Everyday in Florida was a vacation for me.  In fact other than where I grew up in Manhattan Beach, CA there was no where I would rather live than Florida..............til l I came to Hawaii.

I went there for an appearance back in May of 1989 and they put me up at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for a week.  It was just unreal.  I literally quit doing everything in LA and moved there 3 months later.  I gave my ex my BMW and sold everything else and just moved.  Because I always like people around me I like Oahu best.  There is unlimited things to do there and meeting people from all over the world is alot of fun.  And YES girls visiting there are easy pickings to pick-up on and take home for one-nighters.  I think I like that best other than the scenery.  And since I look the way I did I was accepted by the local people really easy, which made it great too.  The people of Hawaii are easily the best in the world when it comes to friendly.  Okay now I miss it.

Objectively. Hawaii beats Florida but 'island fever' and the time it takes to get anywhere from Hawaii makes it lower on the list.

I don't understand what the time it takes to get anywhere means.  You don't within the state (island to island do you).  And I always was asked about island fever.  I moved there in 1989.  In 1997 my daughter had 63 tickets she saved from my trips to LA.  I flew back and forth to LA a lot to see my daughters and get off the island.  And when I didn't go I flew them to Hawaii.  I don't know any teenager that had been to Hawaii more than my oldest.  And I tried to go to an outer island at least two weekends a month.  I loved visiting Maui, Kauai and The Big Island.  Molokai too was kind of fun.  I thought compared to Oahu all the other islands were great places to visit but not ever live on.  But in 2003 I ended up moving to Kona on the Big Island.  I truly have to say that place is boring as hell.  It is absolutely beautiful but boring.  I also think it was boring too because of my weight and the fact I could not do as much as I could before when I visited for a weekend.  Being a fat slob really fucks up your social life.  Hey that could be the title of my book.

And Seattle must be horrible cause there are so many Seattle people who move to Hawaii.

Where are all these wonderfully interesting big city people hiding when I visit? New York, Frisco, Seattle ... mostly freaks, punks, and self-important pricks. Interesting places perhaps, but the good folks are in small towns.

Diversity is overrated.

For me...South Florida.  Weather is beautiful 99% of the time.  I wouldn't move back to Boston as it's just to dark and dreary for my liking.  Winters suck, long, cold, dark and wet.  The summer has shortened to about two months time with the added Spring teaser.  Although watching the leaves turn in the fall was nice, it happened within a weeks time and was over and then usually dropped to 30 degrees, add snow (pretty first time around), then all the sanding, the city becomes very dirty.  Down here in SF there is always color.  Flowers are always in bloom.  The ocean is clear and warm.  It's sooooooooooooo much cleaner here all around.  The people are friendlier and not always in an unrealistic hurry (although there are times that Floridians are too laxidaisy and slow  :-\

I love it here.   :D

Few points: I wouldn't consider Boston dark ( compared to a city like Seattle)..... The summer is defiantly longer than two months ( it gets warm in May, and typically you are still getting 80 degree days in early september.) It's 90 currently, and we where getting 80 degree days in late April this year. I agree that the winter sucks, but that is true of any city that has a real winter. If you enjoy winter sports, and a white Christmas, it's a big plus in my opinion. Also, spring and fall are extremely beautiful here, and they last a lot longer than a week. I wouldn't argue that Florida is not beautiful, but the constant humidity, and horrible mosquito's wear on you in day to day life. Also, the housing market and economy is pretty bad in Florida right now. You make less money down south, and there is a very large "backwoods" population in Florida. From a career standpoint, a city like Boston has a lot more to offer than most city's in America. As far as the sanding goes, I wouldn't say the city gets "dirty", infact Boston is one of the cleanest city's in America. The "sand" from the winter is cleaned by the city as soon as winter ends, there is a large budget for it actually. Not sure if you ever saw Boston ranked as one of the cleanest city's in America, but having spent time in most major Florida city's, I can say for a fact that Florida is not cleaner than Boston (from a garbage / bum)standpoint - I would say the opposite. There is no bad part of Metro Boston, as the "ghettos" are located outside the major metro areas. Boston is one of the most beautiful and historic city's in America, and although it is not tropical, there is not a city in Florida that is more beautiful architecturally than Boston - IMO. In the summer, Cape Cod beaches rival any beach on earth.

If you are the type of person that like constant humid heat, then of course you are not going to like Boston. But if you like a full blend of seasons, Boston is a great choice.

Nope, been to most major cities in the country, and have seen what most have to offer. Taking all things into consideration - ( not just weather) I would rank it like this:

New York
Boston
San Fransico
Seattle
San Dieago
Washington DC (metro)

Weather

Hawaii
San Dieago
Florida

I'm talking about more than just nice weather - we are talking careers, schools, economy, technology, hospitals, jobs and quality of life. Sure you can say Florida is the best place to live, until you need to buy a house, and maximize your earning potential. Thats not to say you can't, but a city like Boston or NYC offers a hell of a lot more in regards to carrer oppurtunites to a college grad, than a lot of cities. Some of these places being listed are no doubt the best climates in the USA, not so sure about much more though.
