Few points: I wouldn't consider Boston dark ( compared to a city like Seattle)..... The summer is defiantly longer than two months ( it gets warm in May, and typically you are still getting 80 degree days in early september.) It's 90 currently, and we where getting 80 degree days in late April this year. I agree that the winter sucks, but that is true of any city that has a real winter. If you enjoy winter sports, and a white Christmas, it's a big plus in my opinion. Also, spring and fall are extremely beautiful here, and they last a lot longer than a week. I wouldn't argue that Florida is not beautiful, but the constant humidity, and horrible mosquito's wear on you in day to day life. Also, the housing market and economy is pretty bad in Florida right now. You make less money down south, and there is a very large "backwoods" population in Florida. From a career standpoint, a city like Boston has a lot more to offer than most city's in America. As far as the sanding goes, I wouldn't say the city gets "dirty", infact Boston is one of the cleanest city's in America. The "sand" from the winter is cleaned by the city as soon as winter ends, there is a large budget for it actually. Not sure if you ever saw Boston ranked as one of the cleanest city's in America, but having spent time in most major Florida city's, I can say for a fact that Florida is not cleaner than Boston (from a garbage / bum)standpoint - I would say the opposite. There is no bad part of Metro Boston, as the "ghettos" are located outside the major metro areas. Boston is one of the most beautiful and historic city's in America, and although it is not tropical, there is not a city in Florida that is more beautiful architecturally than Boston - IMO. In the summer, Cape Cod beaches rival any beach on earth.

If you are the type of person that like constant humid heat, then of course you are not going to like Boston. But if you like a full blend of seasons, Boston is a great choice.

I lived in Boston all through grad school and worked there for a couple years afterwards.  The city is dark, insular, and segregated, with very harsh winters and short summers; the year I moved there people were wearing heavy coats and gloves in October.  I wouldn't go back there for a job at Harvard or MIT.  :(

Argentina is one third Italian I have been told. True Torres? Mexico has Europe ties, culture wise. Spanish, French, German and even English and Irish. The Irish played a strong role in their many revolutions over the years. Jewish influence also. All we see up here in the U.S. are Mexican illegals mostly the poor & rural with high Indian blood and no education.

The people republic of San Francisco, though a interesting and somewhat charming city, with great ethnic (4 and 5 star) eating establishments, lost a lot of it's charm with the roving band of street people (a polite term used here).  It's like where every you go some vomit stained A-wipe has his hand out for money. Plus the shit and smell of piss in just about every store door downtown Market street and that plaza area. Also the thrill of Castro St. is well lost on me. San Francisco is more a state of mind than a actual city, in my view. The weather can be cold and damp most of the year, though people from the British isles may enjoy that. Interest how a place so foggy can also be so windy. NorCal eddy's I guess.

Thats your opinion, I would have to disagree. Not sure how you could say a city that legalized gay marriage, and has a massive college population is segregated and insular, but you did say San Fran has a nice climate, so to each his own I guess. Most colleges here have a large international population, and they all live in the city. Tons of foreign doctors, lawyers and professionals as well. I would think you would agree if you spent time at MIT, or Harvard? As for Boston being dark, it's not even close to as dark or rainy as Seattle, which many consider a top city.

The city is 80 percent young professionals, and college students. The winters are long, but I enjoy snow, and change of season. Fall and spring are great seasons here, and I enjoy the color that comes with it. I wouldn't call a four month summer short, either. I bet it's hotter in Boston during the summer than it is in Frisco. It's consistently in the 80's all summer long.

As far as a great city goes perfect climate is a portion of the puzzle. From a technological standpoint, as well as Career opportunities I can say for a fact Boston is among the elite. The city is pretty trendy, and there is alot to do. It's not Hawaii, but you don't go to Hawaii to establish a career. There is a reason people come from around the world to attend the colleges, and seek medical attention at the hospitals.

Please dont take offense to this, but your top list was a bit swayed towards the gay lifestyle ( which is fine).

It's like where every you go some vomit stained A-wipe has his hand out for money. Plus the shit and smell of piss in just about every store door downtown Market street and that plaza area.

They call this "character." It's part of the city's charm.

Anyone that says that has not lived there for any length of time.

Cool thread man. Currently i live on Curacao, Caribean.. Pretty nice.. 24/7 summer which is very nice, but dont see myself living here for the rest of my life. San Fransisco looks great, so do a couple other places in the states. Not sure about going back to The Netherlands in a couple of years..

Would like to hear Xfactor or Panda's opinions on this...

To many criminals on Curacao. People are lazy, don't want to work in construction or tourist industry, in short they don't want to work for their money. The Netherlands is much better of selling that damn island to Venezuela. Nothing good comes from Curacao.

The Ugly:  I am  tall and extra large by normal standards, and they keep following behind as I walk away, yelling every name in the book at me because of no bills dropped their way. Kind of would like to turn around and put some pressure on their knee caps to see what would happen. But of course, law and order on whatever terms(?). Than again they would probably have a  ACLU lawyer on my case in no time. All in all, I think SF works better for gay's than straights. They can have it all with with my best regards.

SF is so out-of-control socialist, it defies logic. They'll protect Hobo Joe's right to shit on the sidewalk at all costs. At the expense of business owners and $-spending tourists he chases away, 'cause they don't want to further victimize poor Joe.

Who feeds Joe again?

Do the doctors and other medical personnel in Scotland work for free? If not, then, someone is paying for it.

Then again, all I know about Scotland is what I saw in "Trainspotting." Frankly, I wasn't impressed.

yes we pay a percentage in tax off our wages, but if i needed major surgery i wouldn't have to pay a penny for it.

it works in at around $100 a month - how much do americans pay for health insurance?

i watched that film sicko - and am under no illusions, we have a much much better system, oh by the way we also do private health care, and if i had loads of money i still wouldn't use it.

America do lots of things right, but if you would change 1 or 2 things you would be perfect.

i.e. health system and banning guns are the main things.

What the hell is with Europeans' obsession with our guns here in America?  Seriously...  do you not realize that the only effective method for defending oneself from those who would do you harm is a firearm?  What right does a government have to take away a person's means with which to defend themself?  If someone misuses a firearm, then put them in jail, that's what we do, but there's no reason in the world law-abiding citizens should be at the mercy of criminals because paternalistic governments have decided they shouldn't be allowed guns.

exactly. Call the cops and wait ten minutes and by the time they get there you're dead or have a license to carry and take action.

Why do they tolerate it, though? Hell, they finance it!

As if reckless, hairy buttsex isn't itself a sufficient deterrent, knowing I'm expected to settle in that toilet will forever steer me toward vagina.

ten minutes in the states.... here they would show up the next day...

that is why all members of my family are able to use guns... even my lil bro, since he was 15 i think...

the good thing here is that you can actually kill them without many things said to yo u afterwards... 8)

hahahahaha fvcking coward !

whats wrong with fists? the butt of your head, knee, feet, or if your a complete pussy a knife?

land of the free and home of the brave - hahahahahahahahahahahaha haha

clearly your suggestion of - if somone misuses a gun put him in jail is flawed, as each misuse more often than not results in a death ::)

and the death rates arn't getting any lower  ::)

another coward  ::)

you are all missing the point - any monkey with a gun can kill with the twitch of a finger.

if guns were banned someone would have to actually engage in mortal combat to kill someone - much less appealing.

americans who love their guns = retards
