It's a beautiful state and Louisville has a lot to offer.  But lots of redneck hoosiers as well.

Isn't that the good part?

This post is hilarious.....not even worth arguing with you. Back bay is ok 'sometimes", come on . The cities you listed are not even in Boston, so not sure what they have to do with Boston, like I said the run down areas are located outside the city. The winters are getting longer? Most of the people from Florida are from the northeast, and there is not a huge white trash population? Florida cities rival Boston architecture and history? You can make more money in one of the worst local economies in America? It's under sixty 70 percent of the time here? I don;t know your post is pretty extreme, and not very accurate.

What part of Boston did you live in? Btw, I have spent more time in major Florida cities than you have apparently. I know a thing or two about the state. I admit based on climate/tropical beaches Florida has Boston beat, but I'm not you can compare things like History, schools, hospitals, technology and carrer oppurtunies (post grad).

Just my .2 it's all subjective anyway.
Yeah, I'm sure my 40+ years up there are nothing compared to your...what twenty something?  ::)  Like I said...everyone opinion is different.  Come back to me when you've spent 40 years up there and tell me how clean it is, how the weather is, how the economy is.  (btw...you put words in my mouth-post and exagerated what I stated.)  The cities I stated in my post are neighboring cities.  Each one just about touches Boston.  They are not "in" Boston...Boston is it's own city.  They are the subs of Boston and have more problems then the subs of say (I'll list the big cities of FL) Tallahassee, Palm Beach, Orlando, Daytona, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and probably Miami.  I also didn't state that Florida cities rival Boston architecture and history.  Maybe you should read my post again.  What the hell are you talking about regarding white trash population in Florida?  ROFLMAO...your time must have been spent in more rural areas (dead center of Florida) and not in the major cities.  While you were down here, did you speak to anyone?  I've been living here over 3 years now and like I said, well over half the people I have met are from the North East.  This state exploded in the last 10 years in population.  I wonder where all the people came from and why?  To be truthful, I hear the same story over and over again.  Boston, New York, New Jersey, Penns., Conn., etc...all hating the winters, hating the weather and wanting to be somewhere warm and sunny.  They don't call this the Sunshine state for nothing. ;)

They are not "in" Boston...Boston is it's own city.  They are the subs of Boston and have more problems then the subs of say (I'll list the big cities of FL) Tallahassee, Palm Beach, Orlando, Daytona, Tampa, Ft. First off - you exaggerated heavily on your assessment of Boston weather.....I think you said the winters are somehow getting longer , its below 60 seventy percent of the time, warm weather is only in weekly spurts - ( it's been in the 80's for almost two months now) ::) You clearly didn't live within the city when you lived in MA, and if you did what part? I have been living in Boston for pretty much my entire life, and I guess things have changed vastly since you left, as pretty much nothing you said about the city is true. Also, I made the statement that in the major metro parts of the city, there is no "bad" areas. Unlike in other city's, where you run into bad neighboorhodds every other block. Miami and New York are notorious for this. Again, the cities you listed are the surrounding cities and the only thing they touch is a the far outskirts of Boston... Again, this is a rarity, and an asset of the city. I don't see how you cannot understand that you can walk from the waterfront downtown - Fenway across the city, and not run in to a single bad area. You can't do that in places like Miami or New York. Why are you leaving suburbs like Wellesley, Newton, Cambridge, Brighton and Lexington out of the disccussion? Not talking about Beacon hill, Back bay Copley or Newbury? Many of the highest income areas in America.....You said back bay was ok at times, right, some of the most expensive real estate in the country is like that for no reason!? MA is constantly ranked in the top 10 when it comes to median income.http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/28/real_estate/wealthiest_states/

As for major crime, Miami and Orlando have Boston beat by ALOT....and I can't compare the smaller cities you listed, because they are just that small cities. Thats like comparing apples to grape fruits.

Again, as far as climate goes - Florida has Boston beat. But thats pretty much it. I have been to Tampa, Miami, Orlando, Sarasota, Hollywood, Ft Lauderdale, Clear Water and Jacksonville.... I know about the backwoods population that lives in the suburbs of cities like Tampa. I have been going to these places ( especially Miami) for a lot longer than 3 years. Miami is a wonderful city, and all the money is concentrated in a few areas, people don't know about the other side of Miami, when you get off the beach, Ocean or Collins. Do you know that Miami is considered to be one of the top cities in America when it comes to violence and murder? Also, the housing economy, and local economy in many parts of Florida are shot. Higher gas prices mean less tourists = bad economy, and it's not getting better. Shit, there are entire cities in Florida based on sports teams spring training. The city the redsox train in depends on them to run their economy. I am willing to bet most of the people you meet in Florida already earned the bulk of thier money in a city like NYC or Boston.

It's all subjective, but the best place to live in America needs more than a great climate IMO. I didn't say Boston was the best btw, I said it was top five.

My simple rule of thumb...

anywhere where you have your windshield wipers on at the same time as your A/C...equals not a good place to live, for me.  ;)

Have I lived in Boston? Yes, I have lived on Beacon Hill, in Back Bay, the North end and also the downtown area. Currently I live in the city. Have you ever lived in the City, and no a city 8 miles outside city limits is not Boston. Have you ever lived in teh back bay, or any other areas within the city?

Combat Zone
Your talking about China town. Not anymore, there are many new businesses and resteraunts in the area since it was cleaned up. The "combat zone" is deep in Roxbury, far outside the parameters of the actual city. You understand that Bostons recent gun control programs where adopted by a ton of different states in the country, including Florida.
China Town
See above
Fenway area after dark
What? Most of the Redsox players live in the Fenway area.... and it's about 95 percent college students these days. I can name 5 colleges less than 2 miles from Fenway. BU, Northeastern, Emmanuel, Simmons and Suffolk. A studio goes for about 1200 per month without utilities in that area. Also, why are you leaving out the wealthy areas of Boston like Beacon Hill, Copley, The West end, Back Bay and now the North End. Thats pretty much every major area of Boston. Shit, since the big dig (and the new parks it brought to the weaterfront, housing prices have skyroceted in the North end.
lol..................i dare you to walk thru those crime-infested filthy dirty areas
You don't know what your talking about here, I was in china town recently at News, one of the best after hours resteraunts in the city. Also, I go to Tufts medical center to see a primay physician when I'm sick, which forces me to walk all over the area.China town was cleaned up long ago, and was the last crime riddled area within the city to be douched. Like I said - in METRO BOSTON, there is pretty much no bad area's since Menino cleaned up china town. The crime rates are lower in Boston than in Orlando and Miami, and as a state it's lower here in MA
Boston = sux
Not according to CNN ( which lists it top five in Median income year after year), The thousands of people who come here to utalize the cancer facilities, the hundreads of thousands of out of state college students who come to the school, and the millions of tourists who visit the city..... also, Forbes magazine just named Boston the most technologically advanced city in America. Where does Florida rank? Maybe it sucks to a person that lifts weights all day, but saying it sucks is laughable..... If you ever get cancer ( God Forbid), you will come to Boston to be treated.
Florida = doesn't sux
The climate doesen't suck at all, but the economy, crime rates in major metro areas, the mosquitoes and the housing market does.
Boston's summers last all of 2 months (July Aug)
False, it last for three months June - Aug.... But it starts getting warm in May - we had many 80+ degree days in early may this year, and typically are still in the high 70's come early September
it's winters all the rest
No, it's winter from  Nov - march. There is also a time called spring and fall.
Boston cold starts Sept 1st ...and ends July 1st
Blatant lies
10 months of bitter ice ice cold ("whiteouts"....shoveling your car out....frozen car locks....deicer......san d in the car/snow tires.....)
the winter before we finally left Boston i was on my way home from work (late nite),it was a blizzard "Whiteout" conditions......a snow plow ran me into the guardrail and off the road/highway
that was "it" for me
Thats to bad, but we don't have ten months of bitter ice cold, unless you rewrote weather patterns.[/quote]

The only thing Florida has on Boston is a great climate, it's economy is based on tourism - ( which is in the shitter), and the vast majority of the successful people that have homes there made there fortune in cities like NYC, Boston and Chicago. Mike, Florida is a great place, but it's median income is lower than MA, the hospitals are not even close to as good, the schools arent as good, people make more money here, and the crime rates are lower. Plus not everyone likes humid heat all year, I like to ski, snowboard and have a white Christmas! The stats I listed are facts, your opinion is valid and I understand where you are coming from, but you don't seem to have much knowledge regarding some of the things that make Boston a top city. It's more than the weather....

I agree, just making some points man! I like the things you like, but my job is so demanding that I can't do them as much as I want to. I hope to buy a home in Hollywood (Florida) on day, and visit more. I couldent live there year round, but I like to visit.

I will be in Miami come early september at the Delano, do you live near there?

Did you see Stilt City in the Keys.  They are houses built on stilts out in the water.  People get around by walking on the coral reefs.  Very unique.

I live in Mystic and just finished school in Branford, New Haven stinks and have a few friends in North Haven, they seem to like it

San Antonio or the east coast of Texas in the early winter (Nov-Jan)
Either coast of Florida (Feb-Jun)
South or east coast of Spain, Montreal, Can. or Corfu, Greece (July-Oct)

HM's choice based on experience.

I still don't know of any place on earth that is better to live in than Hawaii.  If you can afford to retire there it is best.

I think a person is is 100% retired that this would be an awesome place to live.  You get to travel around the world and see places different all the time.  This would be perfect

I agree.  Not even close.  The people, weather, ocean, mountains, culture, food, and overall way of life are superb.  I wouldn't live anyplace else in the U.S.

I've never been to the Keys but I went to Sanibel once... Was only there for a weekend and it was red tide so I can't give a fair assessment of the place.

A few places that seem as though they'd be great to live in would be Naples, FL, Denver, Co, Laguna Beach, CA, Scottsdale, AZ and Aspen, Co.

I lived in Florida for 18 months, wasn't my scene. Spent months in Vegas once, enjoyed that. I've been to maybe 25 states or so, and would say as a vistor Hawaii seems best to me, Seattle is also cool - but of course living somewhere is different from visiting it.
