Most people who have abs don't really do more than situps and crunches.

But you'll see idiots doing a bunch of elaborate shit only to have guts.  ;D

Alex, if youre serious abut taking up powerlifting, you will dig these.  Great for the abdominal strength it takes to stabilize huge weights.

I'm serious. The problem is I'm not ready for the gayness associated with performing these ;D

I'm a skinny fat tool.  However I like these at the end of back workouts.  They make the rib cage/serratus sore for days when done slow, high-reps with a 45-pound grip plate in the hand.  I know they're supposed to work the obliques, but I'm not trying to win any Bbing shows, just get bigger, so a slightly bigger waist doesn't bother me.   Does it help on bigger movements like squat and DL? I dunno.

Im just a fat tool, but I will tell you 100% it helps with the squat and deadlift.  Obliques are the most important abdominal muscle group fo rhitting big weights, IMHO.

If you were squatting only 790 you would be a tool but by crossing the 800lb barrier, tool no more ;D

I guess I've spoken too fast... maybe it would help with my back issues...

I do them with a kettlebell. nonstop just keep switching hands for about 5 sets of 20 each side. closest i can simulate to getting rolled on by black teenagers.

I'll take your word for it Moose. I do 100 to finish my workouts, just to keep my dicey lower back flexible. Seems to work better than hypers for me.

Yes, you must bend over a bit to avoid imbricating (grinding) the spinal joints together.

At 21 (probably my most ripped ever, before I tried to get 'big'), I was doing 1,000 twists a day for 6 weeks.

Crazy, excessive...yes, what did I know?

Hello, son! :)

No, Alex, can't lift for foreseeable future.

Amazingly, I am scheduled for more surgery this Thursday.

Now I will have time again to direct some vitriolic posts from my 1000+ photo archive towards some who, I feel, deserve it!

Ha!

I will have my laptop in the hospital.

I have been dieting hard for about 7 weeks....and have shed about 28 pounds, altho I am now skinny fat with no lifting!

But, the following day, if I am released from hospital, I am going to treat myself to some barbecue!

Thanks for your well wishes

I remember in 80 or 81 or so Chris Dickerson was 40 lbs heavy just as he started training for the Olympia.  He would do 45 minutes non-stop twists.  If you do them right with your head facing forward at all times and twist till the end of the stick is facing forward without turning anything but your shoulders they work.  They were a staple of ab training back in the 70's and 80's.  Plus they keep you loose.
