According to Bezerkfury, everyone in the United States saves at least 20k a year

Now I am a poor man and that is a lot of money for me.

But I wonder how true is that statement of his?

Would most people agree and virtually everyone in the USA saves at least that much working less than 30 hours a week? I always thought the US was the land of credit card debt and loan debt?

I would love to hear peoples' opinions on this because I have some pretty smart friends in the USA who don't save that much and have good jobs and usually work 50+ hours a week and are still paying off debt on credit cards and loans.

So I realise that saving 20k a year isn't much but is Bezerk right? Virtually everyone saves that much working less than 30 hours a week in the USA?

It depends I guess....If i didn't pay alimony..I could do that. But I would rather max out a Roth.  Income level, where u live etc all matter...expenses. 20k would be great..but most people don't, even if they could.

Americans have a penchant for spending. But there are a large number of people out there who manage to put that kind of money away, working 40 hours a week. Just because you couldn't doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

   If you are talking saving it with a 401 k or something that is different. When you are single  with no dependants they tax the shit out of you.I don't make a lot of money, between 55 and 60k per year and I have already paid in almost 7k in taxes this year.

Yeah but ur in Indiana and thats not bad. I live in Missouri and the cost of living is very low as well. 55-60 is starting pay for a cop in LA. Its all relative to where u live. If u givea colleg student with no bills and no debt...that would go along way.....for me that would be a pay cut and kill me.

I have a buddy who graduated last year, makes $85k a year working 40 hours a week in the leadership program for an insurance company here in Connecticut. He saves $20k a year easily. Been out of school a year. I'm reckon by the time he's 28 or so he'll be saving more.

Deicide couldn't do that out of college so he ran to Korea and blames America for it. The guy refuses to blame himself for his failures.
