While what you say is valid, and it is possible to have an understanding of a subject without formal education, and it is also possible to be educated and able to use technical jargon without having a true understanding of the subject, both cases tend to be the exceptions rather than the rules.  On the whole, formal education in a subject and degree of understanding of that subject tend to be highly correlated.

I'm certainly not anti-education.  I just feel that too much emphasis is placed on memorization and regurgitation of definitions.  Too little emphasis is placed on a holistic understanding of subjects.  (holistic having no association to holistic medicine....)

As another example:
Q: A rise in the sodium level of the blood will cause an increase in the production of Aldosterone.  T or F?

You could have a great understanding of the action and effects aldosterone has in the body.  You could know that it is secreted in response to blood sodium levels, you could know that aldosterone affects sodium reabsorption in the distal tubules of the kidneys.  You could know and understand that by affecting the reabsorption of sodium, it affects the retention of water by the body.
You could see the entire "big picture," and be able to relay the information in layman's terms to the general public and make THEM understand how it works.

When you eat more salt, the body responds by changing its aldosterone secretion which forces the kidneys to hold on to more sodium.  This causes the body to retain more water, which then causes a rise in blood pressure.
You could understand how this affects baroreceptors and how that affects the function of the heart.  You could understand bernoulli's principle and how the increase in blood volume from the increased water retention from the increased sodium retention causes a rise in pressure as the blood leaves the heart through the Aortic Valve.
You could even be able to perform the equation of continuity to know exactly how much the pressure is increased.....

You could see the entire big picture.......AND get that question wrong.

If you would have spent too much time LEARNING how aldosterone effects the body and not enough time learning whether aldosterone production is INCREASED or DECREASED, you would get a big fat 0 on that question.

Someone that knows the "game" could have spent 10 seconds memorizing that:  decreased blood sodium = increased aldosterone

I'm definitely NOT anti-education.  I just feel that the education system could be much more effective if it approached learning differently.

I also dislike how pompous and self-serving it can look when you write on a subject.
I think the entire set up of the peer-reviewed article....with its 10 dollar words and lack of "flow" does nothing to help further everyone's understanding of a subject.

My personal feeling is that there is no better proof of subject knowledge than the ability to "teach" that subject to someone else....using a language THEY can understand.

Milos has no formal training in either exercise physiciology, kinesiology or anatomy. If he wants to go to Cal State Fullerton and get a degree in one of those areas he is free to, and then he will have a BASIC knowledge and can claim he knows his shit.

I have seen a few of his seminar type lectures on youtube, he has picked up a few things about nutrition, but as far as stength, power and the other things he listed, he is just a gym lab monkey and nothing more.

Ask Milos what the orgin, insertion and action are of the brachialis, or the serratus posterior inferior, or what the krebs cycle is-then we will see how smart Milos is.

And yes, I will take that Milos challenge any day of the week.

milos doesnt know jack shit. only reason he is able to pass as an training/nutritions expert is because he is preaching to people who are total morons.  (and drug use which lets you get away with a lot of vodoo bullshit)

his seminars are a joke. inner pecs, giant sets, his nutritional advice. just a bunch of pseudo bullshit.

The only time I remember seeing a GI rating on a lab assay showed a low number.

I don't necessarily insist that it has a low GI, but I do insist on wanting people to realize the benefit of a high molecular weight carbohydrate is from its low osmolality, NOT from its GI.

WM will reach the small intestine very quickly.  This is the benefit of the WM, and it is entirely independent of its GI rating.

Alright. The only data I've seen on high molecular weight carbs is the Vitargo data. Vitargo is very high GI, pretty much identical to malto/dex. People on some forums are under the impression WMS doesn't "spike" insulin either. Makes no sense to me - totally counterintuitive.

The thing I notice the most is that Milos belongs to the group who use science and research when it suits them. When the research doesn't fit their views it's "the labcoats don't know jack-shit!" You can't really have it both ways and be credible IMO.

Seems Milos has some things with Coach....LOL.

Now Coach...what is your exact point?

You want to tell me that question was: Can you tell me a range or repetitions for power, strength and hypertrophy and IF you can hit a muscle so many ways? Roll Eyes

You want to tell me about the rep ranges USUALLY USED by a rookie trainers (like yourself) who learned "rocket science" of repetition protocols for strength, speed, power, endurance, hypertrophy....?

Oh - let me see Coach..How does this sound 1-5 STRENGTH, POWER, 6-12 HYPERTOPHY/fast twitch fiber specific, 12+ ENDURANCE/slow twitch fiber specific training... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

But Coach...why don't we ell people here what is the real problem you have with me?

You told one of my clients and friends from Getbig (Dean)...that Milos is full of sh-aleluyah...
You told him how you know everything I know and than some...and he challenged you about it...

What's more he gave me your phone and I did call you to tell you that I would be MORE THAN HAPPY IF you would want to meet and have little open debate...and compare the knowledge...which you so panicky refused...

I told you that I would be more than happy to publicly embarrass you and show the world how little you know...as I (and anyone else with remotely elemental knowledge of physiology, exercise physiology, clinical and sports nutrition, biochemistry, anatomy...etc) could see through you - oh so easily....

I am still giving you the same offer: bring the camcorder and anyone you care to be there to possibly be there for your support (John might be ideal...as I see him as the honest man who is a TRUE EXPERT, contrary to you...)...

There is nothing else that I can say but: I tried to be nice...I even offered to train you and consult you...but your damaged ego got on the way...

So Coachy...Let me answer my questions MY WAY...and next time READ the real question and not between the lines...

So, news to you a Coach ( Roll Eyes...Coach for what exactly? Grin...Waste time? Well, I'll give you that...Nobody does better than you Wink):

Can you imagine stimulating GROWTH and HYPERTROPHY using the number of repetitions that are NOT considered stimulating to fast-twitch muscle fiber development?

Hmmmmm?

T - A - K - E     Y - O - U - R     T - I - M - E ....think long and hard...and maybe - ANSWER THE QUESTION? Grin

Coach hasn't replied yet. Let's see what he has to say on the topic of training. Though I suspect the thread will only degenerate to name calling.

I'm in no place to post a big response right now (at the Angels game) but, yes Milos, explain to me how you against the "power, strength and hypertrophy" protocol that has been proven even by the people who you even look up too. Also, to the person who said I tried to steal clients from Milos, 1. I would train a bodybuilder is anyway shape or form even if Ronnie Coleman himself offered me a million bucks AND who the fuck is "Dean"??

It isn't intuitive....
WMS reaches the small intestine very quickly, much faster than a LMW carb like dextrose.

If both WMS and Dextrose were to enter the small intestine at the same time, dextrose would spike insulin much higher.
But, WMS and Dextrose don't reach the small intestine at the same time.  WMS's low osmolality allows it to reach the small intestine (where the majority of carbohydrate uptake to the bloodstream occurs) faster than Dextrose.

Once in the small intestine, WMS will need to be broken down from its polysaccharide form to individual sugars before it crosses into the bloodstream.
Dextrose is already single molecules of glucose, it can enter the bloodstream in its ingested state.
The problem is that Dextrose sits in the stomach for a while before it is able to make it to the small intestine.

Dextrose is a race horse.
WMS is a mule.
In a straight up race, Dextrose would win.

However, the race isn't straight up.  WMS is given a long head start by reaching the small intestine much quicker than dextrose.

My whole point in this thread is that people should treat a statement on the merit of the statement.  Not on the status of the person making the statement.

I know.....that is the Positive board and has no room for what this thread is turning into.  I just happen to read Milo's posts at the right time and was floored when he sat you down like a school boy.  So I shifted that little snippet over here for discussion.   ;D

I am sure if you were that kick ass of a trainer you would have your own thread like Milos has instead of trying to spread the word through "Dean" how Milos is basically not up to your knowledge of physiology.

Yep, your right, but since I athletes why in the hell would I have my own thread about bodybuilding?

BTW, Milos is the one who tries to steals clients away from other trainers. In "pro" bodybuilding. You can also ask if he's so great why don't they stay? Isn't Wolf going to Chad this year?????????
