Serious question for non Americans
« on: July 15, 2008, 02:44:26 AM »
Why do you care so much about US politics and why not ever discuss your own countries politics on here? Also, how would you like it if people from around the world sat on here and made fun of your little countries or Islands or whatevers leaders? Why not show respect for other countries like we Americans show respect for your countries?

It pisses me off how the foreigners of this board are so damn disrespectful of Americans. Bush and McCain are good men, why disrespect them when you are not even an American? You don't see Americans talking about other countries politicians disrespectfully on here.

With 90% of the users Yanks, stories about non-US countries just don't penetrate. If they did I assume you'd be the first to bitch and moan that there is too much foreign crap and that you "don't care about country xxx".

Would you like the freedom of speech to be limited to non-Yanks on here? Maybe we should not be allowed to criticise the US?

If we don't want citizens of other countries to care about our political system, maybe we should stop giving them a reason to.  Kind of silly to play rule the world and expect them to just shut the fuck up if they don't like it.

Got to agree with beardy here. When you're the only true superpower, you've got to expect other nations to take an interest in your politics etc.

Ummmm in case you haven't realized the U.S. especially its foreign policy and economy affects EVERYONE in the world and to a very large degree.  Bush and McCain are good men?  America is an empire whos tentacles reach just about everywhere in the world.  How would you feel if say Russia or China controlled the U.S.?  You do understand the term "dollar hegemony"?

The US govt and the US media lack integrity, they put our business out for international scrutiny and this is what we get.
We are definetly a nation of loose lips, nothing is sacred in the USA.

Like my momma said: Never talk ill of your family (Americans) to non-family (Non-Americans) and then get pissed when they talk ill about your family to you.

I feel you on this but we give them alot of material.

What the fuck do Americans know about other countries and their politics?

The majoriity knows nada! We allow our media to think for us. Most people in the US don't even know about our own govt/politics or leaders.

For one, techically speaking, one can't say I'm not American anyway, as I have full legal rights there through marriage anyway as an aside. That said, the US interjects massively into world affairs, whether we think it is good or bad - thats fact. They have full time staff here, interject into our domestic affairs like clockwork. Therefore what they do impacts us. If they butted out of my business, I would would butt out of theirs. I could not care about Canada's politics for example [past a brief look] as they do not interject into my national business, so has no impact on me.

As far as people commenting, my country has been smashed left, right and center on getbig [not politics really, more worldy folk here] as people seem to assume I am from some backward place where I sit under palm trees all day in a grass skirt ::)

And lastly, it's called going with the flow. I am pretty sure no one gives a rats ass about my islands politics, so why bore everyone with threads about it. Most folks here are American - so fair enough, we discuss what is most interesting to all regs.

I was going to reply, ...but pretty much everything I was going to say has been said already in this thread, and in some cases, probably with far more diplomacy than I most likely could ever muster {lol} so I will simply address this one point that hasn't yet been covered.  Danielson, please don't take it personally. A criticism levelled at Bush or McCain is a criticism of Bush or McCain. I know alot of people seem to identify with others, and see any criticism or praise of those they identify with, as a criticism or praise of themselves, ...but it's not. Trust me on this. When a football player wins the heisman trophy, it's his. I don't get to take his trophy home with me, and basking with pride or the "glow of victory" isn't mine... no matter how hard I may have rooted for him. By the same token, when a politician you support messes up or causes controversy, it's his baggage to own. Please don't try to take it personally. (guilty consciences not withstanding)

Try to Have a Great Day!  :D

ps: Some of us may not be American, but we have many loved ones and family members who are.
I myself have a tonne of relatives who are all American and I am concerned for their future. I just recently heard from my favourite cousin who has recently surfaced. He works for the State Dept and has been serving his country for years overseas on assignment in the ME. For the past 7 yrs we didn't know if he was dead or alive. Thankfully he's no longer in the ME and is now working at a US embassy overseas. The decisions made by US leaders affect not only every person on the planet, but also the lives of Americans, both at home and abroad. So there is cause for concern. As well too, in other countries there is a tendency for the population to be more politically active as well as informed about issues regarding their neighbours on this planet, more so than the US population.

pps - There's a lot of disrespect being shown on these boards, far more than needs to be and the majority of us have been guilty of this at one time or another myself included, ...some to a greater degree than others.

ppps - Neither Bush nor McCain are NOT America. Dislike of those men does not equal the hatred of America.

I don't know if I'd say they were "good men".

None the less, I agree that if you're not an American, why do you give a shit... If you hate America so much, then stop buying our stuff, tell your governments that are so great to stop doing business with us and we can in turn, remove our treaties with your governments and you can enjoy whatever war comes your way alone next time.

There is NOTHING that says you have to deal with us, or us with you if you don't want to.

Kind of silly to play rule the world and expect them to just shut the fuck up if they don't like it.

I think this portion of your post has already been addressed rather succinctly earlier in the thread. If you choose not to listen to non-Americans, I think you'll also find a few responses from Americans there as well.

Ummm, ...a few countries have tried that ... they've since been bombed, had US paid terrorists wage chaos and war on their civilian populations, poisoning little children by substituting their powdered milk with cement, raping nuns etc., etc., etc., the list is endless.

Like I said before... Tell your governments to not deal with us.

I'm sure the US couldn't possibly force the entire rest of the world to do our bidding if they chose not to.

Are you saying that the US is SOOOO powerful that every other country on the planet couldn't tell us no together?

Wow... Who knew?

Serious question... Do you buy American made goods? If so? Then why?

I do care because it will affect my countrie's economic decissions , but im cool with the politics about bombing crazy people around the world (i wont mention who exactly because ron will call me racist and put me in timeout probably).

By the way, i feel your pain, the world hated our great commie killer leader for getting ride of the commie plague back in the days, but the history will show the world it was needed  :)
