i SHOCKED texas is 10th. that means 9 other states are even fatter haha.
speaking from experience, from san antonio south to brownsville around 70% of people over 30 are overweight. nowdays id say even something like 20-30% of KIDS are fat. among hispanic communities id say with complete honesty that among women over 30, a full 95% are fat. dead serious. but they are brutally good cooks though.

'redneck' is a condition which occurs only in rural areas. in cities (in otherwords most of the people) people are the same as anywhere else. i laugh when people think texas is filled with cowboy hat wearing clowns, sure there are some out in the rural areas but go to any big city and the average person would be indistinguishable from someone from new york or LA or any other big city.

Actually, that's a pretty accurate statement, not just a racist comment.  If you read the article, it goes on to break down obesity by race, and blacks, particularly black women, had rates WAY higher than the average for other races.  So, it stands to reason that the states with the most black people would have the highest rates overall.  I wonder how the states would rank if you re-ordered them, this time using the rates excluding blacks?

I'll bet West Virginia and Arkansas would have the worst white obesity rates.

Exactly.  Beyond a certain size, a city is a city.  The stereotypes of any area tend to exist mainly or exclusively in the smaller places.

Houston and Dallas bring down the average.  Fewer Hispanics (as compared to San Antonio and the Valley), and more professionals and transplants from the north and west coast.
