Amazing how many just assume the Americans are the best athletes...our athletes even have many advantages other countries don't. Still the Chinese are beating us. The U.S. dominates track and basketball but that domination doesn't apply nearly as well to the other sports.
I root for the U.S. but also love to see champions from small countries, they are truely amazing.
Yes, I like the ones who did it againest the odds.
Like the South African amputee... a swimmer. The 50 yr old French lady in her 5th Olympics. The German gymnast who at 33 is up againest all the 16 yr olds, while raising a son with leukemia. The Americans have a swimmer in who has cancer and postponed his treatment [doctors said he can to no harm] and he is competing while fighting cancer. Tiny islands like mine, who some have populations as low as 10,000 are in, love them.
We won't medal obviously, but for a micronation that has less that 40,000 people overall as we do - we are happy to be there agianest the big nations. 1 million population islands like Jamaica are huge to us, let alone the big boys like 300 million Americans, and the billion Chinese..so just to be there on a world stage is huge to us.
