Phillipino and south east asian women are hired as nannies/housekeepers and are then tortured by their employers. Some of them are raped/burnt and are locked in to prevent them from escaping. A lot of countries that send workers to the middleeast are now demanding safe working conditions. India now refuses to send ANY workers to the middleeast for that reason. For some reason the orientals are the worst paid.
Other workers such as plumbers/electricians and other manual labourers are all housed in some steaming hot warehouse where they are rarely paid and fed. They can't fly back becuase they can no longer afford to buy a return air ticket.
Yes it's worse for certain foreigners working in Saudi, especially South Asians like you mentioned.
I used to work for one of the "Big 4" accounting firms, and one of my coworkers was a Pakistani citizen who first worked in one of the firm's Saudi offices, and then transferred to my office in Canada. He was telling me that while he worked in Saudi, the firm's HR had devised a salary grid that had a separate column for your citizenship, so your salary was not only based on qualifications but where you're from. He told me that if he gets his Canadian citizenship and then returns to that same office in Saudi his salary would skyrocket compared to what he was earning before he left.
