at only 63.They are speaking today of how footballers of his era all die so much younger than normal folks.makes me wonder about bb'sALL Mr. O winners , gladly, are still alive.Generally, not many bb deaths prematurely, amongst top-name guys
he was such a wonderful humanitarian, he said many times that he didn't work for the retired players only the ones still playing.
Not cool, dude

not cool at all. There is a line..
in all honesty, it wasn't his job to look after them. If the current NFL players wanted to do something for them they would have asked Gene to do so. They didn't, so he didn't. I'm not trying to sound harsh because i believe the NFL as a whole SHOULD have something set up to help those guys who brought the league from poor wages to mega millions, BUT that wasn't just Genes fault. The players and owners and the NFL itself deserves blame for not coming to the party. Besides isn't 'sharing the wealth' a communist idea?
there was an HBO special on that and they had Jim Otto on and the poor guy had to lean against a wall to put his pants on.
Holy shit....didja see that? Was that the same show where they had Alex Karras and his mangled legs?Unreal....in hindsight, NOT worth it.What a way to go on into life with that misery and pain!
there's a guy from here in town who used to play for the St. Louis Cardinals football team named Conrad Dobler and this guy is in bad shape, bad knees and broke, wife has MS too, sad situation.
Shit, dude, he was one of my favorites....known as dirtiest man in fb years ago....do you know him personally?
no but the story is very well known here in STL, Dan Dierdorf is in pretty bad shape physically too but he can afford his medical care, the golfer Phil Mickelson did a wonderful thing and without being asked paid Dobler's daughter's college tuition in full when he heard the story.
ALL Mr. O winners , gladly, are still alive.
But the guys that were their predecessors are starting to drop...Grimek, Reeves, Eder (I think?), and Ross have either died or are ailing. But at least thus far, they've lived longer lives. Just sayin'!!!
