Well I dont think so. Famous Oda Nobunaga had same Opinion as me.
Bushi should fight until it remains one drop of his blood.

Oda Nobunaga did seppuku after setting Honnoji to flames.

Tokugawa Ieyasu and especially Iemitsu were against Seppuku if someone failed a task or dishonored himself, but seppuku was a common way for death penalty (in 90% of cases).

Sorry I misunderstood.
I also know That famous Honnoji no hen.
But it was also true that he said it to one of his servant saying like "Hara wo kitte sumu to omouna!"

Seppuku is bad insofar that you might lose a very capable warrior or general just because he spilled some tea over a famous painting or stuff like that. Japanese of that time were crazy with "pride" and "shame".

Can't we just agree that seppuku is cool?!

No it's not. It's pretty dumb, like all sorts of suicide.

I think one cannot objectively say suicide is bad or wrong; it depends on the circumstances; in the case of permanent and terminal illness for example, it can be the best solution.

If you spek like a philosopher, then the answer is: It can be and it canot be.
Just he/she knows it if he/she did the best before he/she dies.

Thanks. I like your way of thinking as well, your taoist wisdom has made my day more than once.

"Right and Wrong" is a pretty western way of thinking.
In any way, ending your life yourself is fleeing the problem.

In shintoist thinking, suicide or death by an accident is the worst thing that can happen to you because it ends the pure life you are entitled to live.

If you have a painful, debilitating illness and you have tried everything, what is wrong with euthanasia? It is easy to make such claims when one is perfectly healthy...

Oh my friend, Dont get us wrong. We are not the catholics.
We have never said that the suicide was wrong.
Evrything is beyond correct or wrong.
Just we say we had better if we can avoid.
And better respect the death.
The death is not a sad thing. To the contrary, the complete spiritual death is the MOST BEAUTIFUL THING is this universe.

That, Donkeykong, is not an argument. So you see no problem with people spending say 10 years of extremely painful existence on machines, stuck in a hospital, just waiting for an end to the pain, rather than being compassionate and ending the pain in order to prevent further suffering. Shouldn't concern for suffering be the major issue here?

Is not an argument for what?

I am not saying suicide is "bad" or "good" i just say it's a way of fleeing the problem.

No matter if it's being love sick, dishonored by a spilled cup of tea or 20 years of cancer.

I agree with you here. I also believe that suicide is an viable option for some (all?). When life becomes more of struggle than an enjoyment, why prolong it? People will say 'oh, that's selfish, etc.' but I don't agree.

Well, put that way, anything is a way of fleeing a problem; working is a way of fleeing from the likelihood of homelessness, sleeping is flight from exhaustion, eating is flight from starvation, etc.

Would you under any circumstances ever consider taking your life?

Donkey said its OK and Nothing wrong with freeing himself with problem.
And like or not, any solution is freeing "himself" from the problem.
Himself=ego.

Ego=Identity
