I think I mentioned in an earlier posting that one of my family members is a Psychiatrist. When he was a kid we used to call him "Dinkie" because he was the smallest kid in the family, but now that he's all grown up and has become a Psychiatrist (and a former competitive BB) and no one but me still calls him "Dinkie".
I still do refer to him as "Dink" but due to the respect he deserves within his field, I most often refer to him as "Shrink the Dink" and that is fine with him as long as I am the only one who calls him that. (I never call him that in public though. Usually at family dinners it's "Hey, Dink, pass the potatoes!" or "Hey, Dink, ya wanna beer?")
About once a week he holds a poker game for some of his patients and on some occasions I'm invited because he used to compete and still enjoys getting updates on various BB topics.
About a year or so ago I was telling these "Poker Nuts" all about the GetBig board and some of the genuine characters who appeared to be contributing to it during most of their waking hours. I asked them all if they could tell me why anyone who hates the subject of BB so much would spend so much time discussing it and letting it bother them to the point of extremity.
As soon as I said that, everyone stopped playing Poker and listened to the response offered by "Dink" and it soon developed into somewhat of a heated but intelligent discussion which was interesting enough to stop the poker game.
About an hour or so into the discussion one of the guys mentioned that this GetBig Board should be looked at by someone within the psychiatric field and attempt to determine if any conclusions could be drawn from such a study.
Dink said that it could be of interest to a Psych 101 student and that is what it turned out to be.
I was just informed about this "year long study/observation" this past week and am hoping that someone will keep me advised about the results, but due to some sort of questionable doctor/patient relationship I don't think that's gonna happen.
All I presently know is that it was helpful and very interesting and that a few of us might be contacted for further study.
Apparently there are a few of us that definitely need help in the mental department.
Anyone want to step up and admit to that?
I have suspicions on who they may be but I have to include me out even though it's usually the craziest person who least expects it.
