It's not a one on one correspondence, but you can't deny there is a huge overlap between bodybuilding and gay porn.  In fact, many of you don't realize how big an overlap there is.  If you have ever competed, I can all but guarantee that one or more of the guys on stage with you has done some version of gay porn (X, XX, or XXX movies, escorted, "modeled" for gay audiences, G4P, G4Charity, G4Pleasure, etc.)  A lot of guys on the contest circuit have "other lives" that might surprise you and I'm not talking about the obvious examples like musclegallery.  There are many other less obvious venues... and even I have been surprised by some of the guys who turn up in them.  In fact, just last week, I was stunned to learn that a bodybuilder whose career I had been following turned up in a G4P venue.    "OMG, not you too!" 

Your parents are proud of your bodybuilding because they have no idea what really goes on in this sport.  If they had a clue they might not be so proud.  As the old saying goes, ignorance is bliss.

Do you really think the audiences in these two photos are so dissimilar?  I don't.

I confess I'm somewhat mystified by some of the hate mail I get.  Some guys seem to think that if I just disappeared then bodybuilding would somehow be innocent and wholesome again.  I don't respond to individual hate mail so I'll just say this publicly: if I disappeared tomorrow (or even if I never existed) bodybuilding would still be the circus it is today with all its faults.  It was here long before I came along and it will be here long after I'm gone...

On the other hand, if gay men (in general) didn't exist, neither would the sport of bodybuilding.

more exaggerations by Bay, where are the statistics?   I have been to BB shows and while there are a good number of schmoes taking pics the majority of the audience is young wanna be teens and 20 somethingers and older diehard bb fans ...the ones that all the nutrition products are marketed too.  If that was not true, nutrition products would be marketed to gay men and they are not.

Also I dont know why if a man poses in a picture in a sexual way it is automatically labeled as bad or gay but when a woman does it it is considered  good and straight. Thats a double standard.  Why cant a man take a pic where he looks sexual without it having to do with gay?...what is the big deal?  Why is everyone so uptight?

And why is G4 Charity (whatever that is) and G4Pleasure labeled as bad or illicit and catagorized as porn. That again is a double standard.

Arnold accepted gays openly and enjoyed their attention and befriended many. He thought it was reasonable that they would be fans....he just accepted it as something normal and used their attention, to further is power and fame...very smart man.

I gotta agree with nycbull on this one. You're just going on anecdotal stuff, and as 'powerful' as that may be, until you have real 'significant' statistical stuff it's just that - anecdotal.

Right on the mark. If you go to a female beauty pageant, I don't think the majority of the girls in the audience are looking to bump clams with those on stage, lol.

I went to my first bodybuilding contest in college after seeing the movie Pumping Iron. I had to see in person  how big bodybuilders were. I didn't have any gay glasses on, so the thought of Pete Grymkowski as a sex object just didn't cross my mind.

calm down gloria, i have no probem that gays like bodybuilders, however i got into it because as a young boy i watched bruce lee movies and thought he was a beast  , then saw terminator and thought arnie was the most massive beast ever to walk the land, then his other films along with the hulk louie, sly's, van damme, and dolph s films. i admired these men for their masculinity, they were good role models for a young boy in which to aspire.

then i found out most men admire them for sexual reasons 

it totally blew my noble admirations away, and now i am scared to admit i like bodybuilding for fear of ridicule. 

it wasn't always like this, as i understand the golden years of arnie - pumping iron etc had fans from all walks of life sharing my admiration, not any more, and that is sad.

sounds like you have been coerced by Bay, he has got you convinced that "most men" admire them for sexual reasons, but Bay has no stats.  

In fact the evidence points the other way; nutritional companies and muscle mags put money into marketing  straight teens and 20 somthings with provactive photos of fitness chicks and hiring slutty looking girls to strut their T and A at expos, they woudnt do that if the statistics did not defintively show that their core base customers are young straight men. right?

i have never left, however i believe there is more of a gay scene than you admit.

for example take any show, as soon as the contestants turn to the rear they get the most cheers, if they flex their glutes the place goes wild. personally i could not care less if a bodybuilder has striated glutes, but gays do
