Nasser and Shawn from 95 to 97.

Not only from these pictures but also Flex Mag. mentioned in its issue abt Mr. O. 96 that Nasser improved noticeably than Mr. O. 95.. And it's knwn 4 everybody that in 97 he clearly looked worse than both 95 and 96.. Flex Mag. also mentioned that Shawn in 96 was exactly the same as in 95 and I believe he looked the same in 97..

So how come Shawn wth his constant shape ws beaten by Nasser in 95 and 97 and was not beaten by Nasser's best shape at the Olympia in 96??.. Put in mind that the same judges were judging the 3 contests!!.. Here I am not saying tht Shawn was better or Nasser was better but I am just wondering how the judges of the Olympia were setting their standards every year.. My opinion is that they were placing the guys according to wht would keep the sport more popular.. 4 example in 1996 Shawn Ray came 3rd in the Ironman (4 the first time after Paul Dillet who was 2nd) then placed 5th at the AC and everybody started saying tht Shawn was over and it was better 4 him to retire.. So at the Olympia and in order to revive Shawn who was a popular figure they gave him 2nd after Dorian.. Again I am not saying tht Shawn didn't deserve this.. Sorry I hav 2 keep clarifying my thoughts coz some idiots here always like to create stupid arguments by converting the aim of any thread..

Your point is valid...they simply want to push who is popular at the moment, or who they want to dress up as a contender.  Remember the hype about Gunter a few years ago?  Not taking anything away from Gunter, but the bodybuilding media saw that people were getting sick of Coleman winning, so they dressed up Cutler (deservedly so) and Gunter (not so much) as the great white hopes to challenge Ronnie.  As a result, Gunter got a few gift placings.  To a lesser extent, same thing happened with Federov.  Basically, whoever is marketable at the time (and under the right contract) gets the gift placings.

96 Mr O Shawn was ripped. Watch the battle for the O vid. That's why he was put in front of Nasser. Earlier that year at the Ironman and the Arnold he was a little heavier.

Shawn was not the same every year. Shawn's best condition ever leading up the show was 1996 according to himself (bfto 96). 95 he was clearly off his normal stellar conditioning. Shawn was just too small to be Mr. Olympia. He got lost in callouts and posedowns. If you want proof of this just watch the 1995 Olympia pre-judging. In the first callout it's like Shawn isn't even up there. It's not until Nasser gets up there that you realize someone was standing to the right of Doz.

In 97 Nasser although was noticeably lighter thn his usual looked softer.. Check the vines in his arms to knw wht I mean.. As 4 Shawn u r right he ws ripped but this ws the case also in 95 so why they put him after Nasser then the following year put him b4 an improved Nasser??..

This thread needs more pictures, Sherief. Good comparison as usual. From what I can remember, Shawn was a little off in '95 but showed up great in '96 and pretty much the same in '97. Nasser looked fuller in '97 but I agree he looked better in both '95 and '96. His structure didn't really carry the extra mass nicely. So him beating Shawn in '95 was justified. '96 he got disqualified but Shawn's conditioning that year probably made the difference. '97: I think everyone from Nasser to Shawn and Kevin could argue that they deserved the title. Nasser was the only one to beat Dorian sizewise except for his back. That's why they battled for first and second spot. If the judges wanted someone to prevail for his conditioning and proportions, both Shawn and Kevin should have placed ahead of Nasser and Dorian.

Thx Rza.. But it's strange 2 know tht Nasser's weight in 96 was 285 pounds while in 97 he dropped his weight to be 270 pounds on a hope 2 look better and sharper but actually he didn't.. I belive he overdieted.. Still as u mentioned if he or Kevin or Shawn won in 97 it would be better 4 the sport..

Maybe but at least Bannout deserved his title more than most other Mr O albeit for one and only year. He dominated that Mr O like very few dominated. Ronnie certainly deserved his first as he was probably overlooked the two previous years. Competition was starting to decline at that point. Shawn, Nasser, Kevin, Dillett and Flex were already past their prime. Dorian's years were the most competitive since Arnold's first run. It's probably a shame they always chose the same guy. Haney didn't have such great competition 'til Gaspari and Labrada showed up either.
