stay positive... no matter what happens. just believe you'll beat it. I'll be sending good vibes your way.

Thanks James.  I am staying pretty positive.  Have to.  :)  This isn't my only battle.  I also have Sarcoidosis (auto immune disease) of the heart and lungs.  All these diagnosis' made just this year (since january).   So "positive" has been my middle name.  :)

Why does he have all that chalk on his legs?  Looks like he laid down in a parking lot after they just painted the lines.

It's not chalk on his legs, it's baby powder. Chalk is on his hands. He wants his legs to be slippery so the knurled bar slides up & across his thighs. Remember, chalk on your hands, baby powder on your thighs. One won't work for the other.

the hits just keep on coming huh? well then stay positive and strong. I googled sarcoidosis.. it sounds like the odds of keeping it dormant are good... or beating it back down if you have to.
Yup, if caught early enough, which mine was.  I started on 40mg of prednisone back in March.  Was on that 3 months and then started tapering down 2.5 mg weekly, got down to 27.5mg and it ended up being too soon to and too quick a taper (started getting sick again)  so the doc pushed me back to 35mg for a couple weeks and then started tapering me back down 2.5mg every 2 weeks.  I am at 15mg right now and it seems to be holding well.  If I don't have any form of relaps I'll be done with the prednisone by December!   :D

This pic is only 7 weeks after his powerlifting meet.
7 weeks? That's an amazing tranformation in only 7 weeks.

If these guys cheat on diets, how in the world did he do it 7 weeks?  Even with the di/t's...it seems impossible.

He should have baby powder on his thighs to help the bar slide up smoother, chalk would actually do the complete opposite although in that pic it does look like chalk.

Definitely want chalk on the hands though...he looks bloated as sht in the powerlifting pic.  Only reason he would need to blow his stomach out would be right before the lift, not when he is just standing there with the straps on his suit down.

He is deadlifting at a powerlifting meet hun (the chalk is for "traction"/bar don't slip)

Actually that's not chalk, but baby powder to make the bar slide better.

on a more positive note laura... I once knew a girl who had thyroid cancer and she was only like 21, she made a fast complete recovery, but continued to smoke like a chimney... don't know if that had anything to do with the cause of it originally, but damn I would look at that as a new lease on life.  stay positive, no point in stressing over the things you have no control over.. and you will be in better health overall if your system is not overwhelmed by extreme duress.

best of luck

I hear that a lot Jizzacked.  In fact if you are going to have cancer, thyroid is the best one to have.  Only thing is that I'm not just dealing with thyroid cancer.  I also am battling Sarcoidosis of the heart and lungs.  All these things hit me just this year (January 2008).

But, I am optomistic and I'm plugging away for 2009 because I know...that's going to be "my" year.   :D

It's true.  I just had a radiation treatment for my cancer and I have to stay in a different room than Mike for 5 days.  This is day 3.   :-\

But even if we didn't have to be...what's the difference?  He should see my post, move away from the computer, come find me or yell out to me "He is deadlifting at a powerlifting meet hun (the chalk is for "traction"/bar don't slip) Ill have to take you to a "3 lift total" powerlifting meet (bench press, deadlift, and squat) i haven't been to one in years they are actually fun!" ?

Sending good vibes...wishing you a speedy recovery.

I didn't get the kind of radiation that most with cancer get (where the radiation is beamed onto the cancerous site from outside the body).  I had to actually ingest a radioactive pill.  The radiation then flows through my blood, tissue and organs attaching itself to any of the cells left and destroying them.  I was give a pretty high dosage so I have to stay away from people and animals for the 5 days.  I have to eat off paper plates and use plastic utensils.  We cannot use the same bathroom or be in the same living space, meaning if he's in the hall, I have to wait for him to pass through before I can go out to the bathroom or vice-versa.

First day wasn't too bad.  A little nausea, bloat, dry mouth and loss my sense of taste.

Second day (yesterday-last night) was really really bad.  Thought I was going to die.  Uncontrollable shakes, full blown nausea, looked/felt 7 months pregnant, dry mouth/loss of taste and appetite, headache, fever, chills.  Just fricken aweful for me and heart-breaking for Mike, because I had to be that way by myself.  :(

Today, a better day.  Less nausea, still bloated, dry mouth, could taste my supper a little bit.  Still running a little fever, but not like last night.

Hopefully tomorrow is better and each day after closer to feeling normal.

Sorry to hear but you will over come this. Years ago they QT'd people in hospital rooms after treatment. RAI3 is iodine attached to radiation-the good news is that the only cells in the body that will take up iodine are thyroid cells-so the rest is excreted through bodily fluids?
Do mind telling me how many millicures you had to take?

Best of luck! Thyroid cancer is very curable.

Laura Lee I was watching a segment on t.v. about superhuman's and one guy had thyroid cancer and had to have that radiation treatment and had the 3 day alone time and he used his time to learn how to memorize a randomly shuffled deck of cards in something like 2 minutes. He had never tried memorization before that.

Maybe you can become superhuman  :D

Get well soon.  ;)

I may be wrong-   but I think they use chalk on hands for traction and powder on legs so bar will slide

I'm quarentined jason, lol.  For 5 days, granted I'm not locked in a hospital room with a little doggied door for the food drop, but it's pretty lonely.  And you are correct with the thyroid cells grabbing the iodine and rest excreted through bodily fluids but as it comes out of your body via sweat (and you do sweat with this crap in ya) it evaporates and is in the air around me.  Anything I touch becomes contaminated.  When I go to the bathroom, same applies (that's why the separate bathrooms).  And dependent on how many cells are left in the body it can react a bit differently in each person.  The fact that I wasn't scheduled to have this done until October 6th, had my full body scan on Wednesday, doc called me on Thursday and said we need to move your radiation treatment to tomorrow morning (Friday) kinda freaked me out.  It ended up mading me very ill Saturday but it's getting better.  I go back for another full body scan next week.

3700 MBg (100 mCi)

And yes, it's very curable.  They say "if you're gonna have cancer....this is the one you want".  Not that any is good, but this one is quite curable.  The only thing is that it's just not this cancer that I'm battling...I'm also battling the Sarcoidosis (auto-immune disease) of the heart and lungs that I also was diagnosed with this year.  So my body is already weak from fighting other problems.  But, what can ya do right?  Just push forward and kick it's ass.  ;)
