I absolutely remember Curtis from my days at MuscleMag. Often we'd have something about the guy in the magazine.
I never actually met him, though.
If I recall, the muscle beach news section, written by Steve Neece (also RIP), frequently featured him, in some capacity. Stuff about his training, size, his strength, his strongman experiences, etc.
It seems to me I remember Curtis always being spoken of as being a gentleman. The proverbial gentle giant.
His structure, etc., as is mentioned, wasn't ideal for physique competition. However, there's no question he was one gigantic and veiny dude.
P.S. Too many think a strongman's bulk is a result of his being a "permabulker/lazy". Those who suggest this simply are ignorant to the more nuanced elements of strength sports. Sure, some have competed in strongman while being lean and done quite well (there's an obvious example I don't have to name), but in truth, to push at a high level and maintain exceptional leanness is a bad idea. For a host of reasons.
