why cities are blue and rural areas are red
« on: October 16, 2008, 10:11:28 AM »
you can look at any electoral map and see that generally speaking while most of the nation appears red, the cities(and therefore the bulk of the actual population) are typically blue.
this is what i think. the bigger the population, the more democrat it generally becomes. obama will win virtually every major american city. mccain will win virtually all the rural regions. some will say that this is because the cities have the most poor people, those to who the 'liberal/socialsitic/communism ::)' appeals to. BUT, i think it is because it is the CITIES where all progress is made; the cites are where all the educated people are, where rational, logical scientific-based thinking holds sway and modern, progressive, common-sense approaches to and awareness of real world issues rule. democrats thrive in this environment. contrast this to the rural areas, where people are less educated and far less worldly, where old, outdated, backwards ideologies and principles still thrive, where bible-based logic and racism retain their last strongholds. this is why republicans thrive here, and why we have seen so much violently anti-obama sentiments from these parts.

I don't know, John!  Do you really think that families who own a farm in the middle of nowhere and work their butt off everyday to be able to afford what they have are going to want socialism?  I don't think so.

Inner cities have a much larger % of poor and minorities who disproportionally vote democrat.  In this presidential race, we will see even more of that because well over 90% of black Americans will vote for Obama and there will be a larger minority voter turnout.

One thing I have learned over the yrs is that there are both very smart and very dumb people in each party.

For many people it comes down to this.....

Do we want limited government which respects the original constitution, state's rights and the rights of citizens to manage most of their own affairs and decisions with limited but necessary gov involvement... or... do we want a larger, more powerful gov that gives our citizens more, helps redistribute wealth, gives more to the underprivilaged, taking more tax money and takes more decisions away from citizens.  Its the traditional repub/conservative vs democrat/liberal arguement.

Bush & Cheney are not real constitutional conservatives and have increased the size and power of the gov, which used to be a more democratic way of government.  Thats why many conservatives are angry with them.

Then why do they buy things from communist China?

Just like EVERYBODY ELSE in America.

China, communist?  Not entirely.  You need to watch this documentary:

UP THE YANGTZE
Director: Yung Chang, Canada
The Yangtze River is about to be transformed by the biggest hydroelectric dam in history. By the time the dam is completed as many as two million people will have been relocated to new homes from the flooded area. As one struggling merchant forced to move from his riverside home explains, the Chinese people are expected to “sacrifice the little family for the big family.” This dramatic feature documentary about life inside modern China is largely set aboard a luxury ship which is making “farewell cruises” up the river, carrying tourists to see the “old China” before it disappears. Nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

In it, a Chinese man tells this joke:

An American and a Chinese were out driving one day and came to a crossroads. To the right, capitalism. To the left, socialism. The American says, "Let’s go to the right." The Chinese says, "Yes, let’s go to the right, but first put on the left-turn indicator."

I understand all about China's economic "flex", but it's still a communist country... There may be a few independent businesses there, but most of the money goes straight to the government and they own most of everything.

Okay, but how is buying Chinese products going to change the fact that these hard working American families do not want socialism?

And how do you know that they buy Chinese products?  Have there been a lot of cases of people and their pets in such families dying as a result of the products they buy?  If not, then they are not buying Chinese.

Most home electronics come from China... I'm not talking about Milk and toothpaste.

You think these hard working Americans buy stuff that's not made in China, or do they buy the cheapest thing they can get that serves the purpose.

How many hard working American's who are scraping by do you believe look at the manufacture location before they buy a product?

I do, but then I'm not as worried about cost as some people probably are.

I live in NYC, there are legions and legions of lazy deadbeats just looking for handouts and welfare.  They could care less about the constitution, limited govt, etc.

To many of these people, all they know is WIC, Section 8, Social Assistance, etc.

Cities have more Educated people as well... Drs, Lawyers, Powerfull business people, CEOs, CFOs etc...

Why is it uneducated people vote republican and educated people are normally democrats?

Uneducated people don't vote Democrat?  Educated people don't vote Republican?

So who votes independent, high school graduates with some college education?

Then you should be happy to note Obama taught Constitutional Law.  :)
