Upper Body Building
« on: October 17, 2008, 10:39:17 AM »
i have decided im abondoning squats for good, in order to put all my focus on upper body development. doing legs takes too much out of you and limits the time you have to dedicate to the parts that actually show and slows recovery time for you other groups. and lets face it doing squats just sucks asshole. nobody sees your quads anyway unless you are naked and at that point it doesnt matter anyway. ALSO, you do not need bulging quads to look good. from now on im going for the Serge Nubret/lee haney look. you can not train quads and still look good, all that counts are shoulders, arms, lats and chest anyways unless you are a competitive bber.

I agree. Most(all) girls like good legs on a man... not untrained twigs. And when I say good legs I don't mean they have to be Branch Warren size, but legs with atleast some muscle on them.

there is no substitute for squats in leg training. all the extensions in the world arent going to do shit without squats. unless you are juiced or just have great leg genetics, you arent going to build decent legs without squats.

pistol squats (one legged squats) are the answer.  They build the legs better and don't leave you hurting for days.

Fuckin A' right dude. Squats do suck and working out legs in general sucks only slightly less than that.
Legs takes days to recover from and they get worked enough walking around.
Girls and guys wear shorts after the age of 18 anyway so who cares. These days most men wear shorts that drop below their knees. John Matrix is laying down legendary shit here.

My leg workout =

Leg Press
Leg Extension
Hack Squats
Barbell Squats instead of leg press somtimes but ime fucking terrible at them as i said already.

There's plenty of ways to make up for squats, but ok.

bullshit,
Leg press and Machine squats/hack squats.

behind the neck barbell squats is not the only squatting movement in existance.

machine SQUATS and hack SQUATS are squats. and leg press is good but not as effective as squats. also the one-legged shit as well as front squats and even hack squats are horrible for your knees/jjoints/tendons/ligament parts.

plus after legs you cant even walk for like 3 days. forget about stairs. i dont like seeing the world from the viewpoint of an 80yr old arthritis sufferer on a cold day.

I've just started training legs every other week instead of once a week or twice a week. It's pretty rare for most guys, but I'm also really bottom heavy. At the same time though, I don't want to be a chest and arm warrior who never works lower body.

I just slaughtered my legs right now and I'm stretching them at my desk as best I can. Was so dogged that I fell asleep on the couch too and I'm stiff as a board. Leg training is brutal.

If you want to have an armonious physique , you have to take care of the legs too ...

My advice for legs is :

1ce a week

15 min cardio to warm up

5-6 sets of squats ( can pyramid or stay the same...don't matter )

strech

massage once a week ( legs )

I just hit the squat rack and do the bar for a set of 20, then put on 135lbs and work my way up to three plates. If you do squats controlled and PROPERLY then you'll grow great legs. In addition to that, I do a couple light sets of leg extensions and single leg extensions. Gives you a sick pump and helps to get blood in there. I stretch my legs really good during my leg extensions too.

It kills the next day but the pain subsides quickly. Stretching really helps with recovery and growth. Seems to make you more sore but it does pass quicker.

you are probably too stiff in the hips and are letting your knee drift forward.  you need to sit back into the squat
