surely an epic stunt of self importance like that would have been talked about on this board.

did he justify doing this?

Information on the funeral, Monday at 1pm.

Some of you have no idea how much Ben Weider did for the sport, and what he accomplished outside the sport for many people.

The Funeral is at Paperman & Sons at 3888 Jean Talon West on Monday, October 20 at 1 pm in Montreal, Canada.  Burial at the Victorian Cemetery Association, de la savane.

But Shiva is strictly private.
thanks ron.  the 'entertainers' who post comments here would have no material without the world the weider's helped shape.

in case any of you don't already know this and live in the US, if you have ever been convicted of a crime (even misdemeanors like DUI) or even charged with a serious crime and had the charges eventually dropped within the past 10 years ago they will turn your ass away at the us/canadian border.  canucks are allowed to come and go as they please though, its a nice double standard.
No. You guys have the same 'turn your ass away' policy at your border. In fact, I'd suggest it's harsher.

stop talking out of your ass, you don't even know what you are talking about.

canadians can't go to the US is they were guilty of a crime, even a small one

I was told that was the case by a member of law enforcement... if the information was erroneous I apologize.  so you folks get the same royal treatment at the border too eh?  I think its completely ridiculous if you are a born US or canadian system... I was told that the policy did not have reciprocity.  ahh well....  it makes for bad business and ill will all around, hurts commerce and trade... a good percentage of people have something on their record and for someone in business like myself I can't even take a short trip to meet a client face to face, and vice versa for canadian businessmen.

I suppose if we actually wanted to get into each other's country we would have better luck going to mexico and start from there... we are wide open down there.

If you have a record, the Can. Gov't won't even issue you a passport, which nowadays pretty much means you're farked, travel-wise.

Perhaps Basille will show up to the funeral in search of a mourner's discount on IFBB dookie drops.  It worked at Lee Priest Grandpa's funeral.

What the hell is "Shiva",

For people who are not Jewish...

After a funeral, mourners of a parent, sibling, spouse or child (more than 30 days old) stay at home until the morning of the seventh day. The word "shiva" means "seven" in Hebrew. The seven-day period of mourning gives the person in mourning time to adjust to the loss suffered.

It is called respect.

And the Weiders show a lot of it huh Ron?  Tell them to pony up a couple hundred grand more for the next Mr. Olympian.  Might lend some credibility to the side show you guys like to call the sport of Pro Bodybuilding.

What happens if they run out of food.  (i gotta think about that)  Do you take work off too.  Is this considered sick days or do you lose your salary too.  Shiva doesn't sound good to me.

Why should they? The Mr. Olympia prize money is run by how much revenue is generated via the expo, supplement companies, adversiting, etc. Tell you what, you get a television contract, or mainstream advertising to sponsor the contest, and I bet the contest money will go up. We all know bodybuilding is a niche sport. I think this year was over $700K in prize money.  10 years ago, it was around $100. So kudos on the promoters who worked to build it up.

I care more that the Weiders chose to give millions of dollars to various institutions, colleges, community centers and gyms around the world. That is what is important.

When my Mom's sister passed away last year, her brother came in from Israel, and the family sat shiva for seven days.  I didn't take off work, I have a family, and that is priority.  But we made sure, as is customary, that my Mom, her brother, and others who mourn had all the food that was needed, and friends also came and brought cooked items for us.

My dad wound up going and making sure the business was good. He didnt take off either. Sometimes you cannot.

I would up coming in the evening to the house, when I could.

With friends and family bringing things, there was more food there then 30 people could eat.

Your first response/concern is to do with food?  ???
