very cool.  Please share it!  I do enjoy ice cream a few times a week - no reason man has to live on boiled chicken breast and rice.

No worries I'll have a look at home and post up his diet recommendation.

Good ole' Mike Mentzer, he sold books saying you can train once a week and eat whatever you want and get a great physique.

A good friend came down from NorCal and wanted to have breakfast here.  She said this place serves anything from healthy organic eating to ghetto-lard-infused food.  This place is also known for feeding bodybuilders by the troughful.

Upon entering this place, I found it pretty charming...kind of an old world feeling.  The section we sat in was pretty small and pretty full for early Sunday but as long as we got a seat, it doesn't matter.  One thing's for sure: it was pretty noisy inside!

I ordered multigrain pancakes while my gal pal had an egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms.  Since I'm into healthy eating, I thought the 3 stacker was sufficient and don't feel half as bad.  My friend enjoyed her omelet.  Our coffee cups were being refilled like clockwork.

We were disappointed that we didn't see any cute bodybuilders there...not even ugly ones.  Maybe it was too early for them or being Sunday, they're all at church.  The only bodybuilders there were us!
We were more buff than most of the patrons![/b]
All in all, my experience with The Firehouse was pretty good.  The service was quick and friendly and the place itself is bright and clean.

The food was decent but somehow I wonder what the ghetto food would taste like if I weren't such a darn healthy eater :(.

I noticed that a few Yelpers had a touch of food poisoning while eating here.  Though the food is quite decent, this place is not set up to prepare foods like sushi.  I'll stay away from such foods at this establishment.

  • "What you don't have is a career."

It's not just a meal - you have to pay for the location.

The prices are right in line with other non-chains in the area.

Good spot, good food, good times.

Adam, I think you should break down & go to the Firhouse, sample a few items & write us a full review.

I totally passed on buying any El Bulli books.  My perception led me to the same conclusion.  Open 6 months and pretending to be selective in choosing only 8000 applications to eat there. Total Gimmick.  Anyone who goes to Spain to eat there would probably do better sneaking around back to the street vendor selling chorizo and beef burgers for few dollars. lol.
Better shut up ur mouth if u didnt eat there(El Bulli).
Its just amazing.

  • Really ? You finished turd my flend? Maricon..
I have hundreds of issues of Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Saveur.  Professional Cookbooks of all kinds.  Tons of Food and Restaurant review articles from the LA Times, NY Times etc...

NEVER ONCE have I heard a thing about The Firehouse.  I can`t even name a chef that works there or has worked there.

This leads me to believe it is overrated crap.  Am I correct?  What is it like and what is on the menu?

Anssi backed out of the challenge so therefore I never went on that kind of diet.  Hope this helps.

What's more exclusive for restaurants?  The Michelin Star or the AAA five diamond award?

As far as I know only 60 restaurants get the 5 diamond award in North America.  NY has at least 20 places with at least one michelin star.  Overall there are about 120 chefs recognized with the star.  Keller has a 3 star rating at Per Se, but I think Ripert's Le Bernardin is not as good, but he also has 3 stars.  I believe the Michelin ratings are more biased towards traditional French cuisine.

The restaurant I worked at as garde mangier, and grill/butcher earned a 5 diamond award, but didn't even get reviewed by Michelin.

Michelin is a European rating. Le Bernidan is rated #1 seafood restaurant in the world. Per Se #2 in America. I don't know what the hell diamonds are? I always thought it was stars.
Did you LOL at the reviews of the Firehouse in this thread? :)

Emeril's restaurant in new orleans is really overrated as well.  The menu is a la carte and grossly overpriced.  i bought some roasted duck and a bisque and a glass of the house wine and i spent around $100.   The experience there would have been good if Emeril, who was actually there on that day, would have kindly given me his autograph.   He didn't.... his whole excuse was that he was at the restaurant to relax and not work.   I guess signing a piece of paper is considered "work" in New Orleans.   ::)

It could have been worse, he could have had his wife ask you for $10 to take a photo with him :-\
