What do u guys use to keep these dowb? Liptor? What else anyone chime in!thx bros
in my opinion, you should avoid statin drugs like the plague, ESPECIALLY if you are heavy into weight training. Myositis is all too common with these drugs and thats just the tip of the iceberg for their problems.
The entire "cholesterol" bullshit in human medicine is a mess thats fueled by huge drug profits (Lipitor is the MOST commonly prescribed drug---based on studies funded by the drug company--that alone should be a red flag for an intelligent person).
The other problem is no one knows for sure just how bad a high cholesterol is. There are associations and there are correlations, but there isn't definitive proof for some individuals. Hell, my grandfather lived to be almost 90 on a diet of fried eggs, fried ham, fried pork, fried chicken, fried bacon, head sausage and biscuits every morning with sausage or fried something every evening and braunschweiger, thuringer, or salami for lunch. When his cholesterol was "up", he'd cut back on the beer, add a glass of homemade red wine each day, and things would equilibrate right back to normal. Medically, based on convention, there isn't an real godo explanation for that.
The absolute first step should be for a person with elevated cholesterol to get their diet right---this means adequate fiber, fewer processed foods, and balanced plant intake. The second step is to exercise. Third vitamins, plant sterols, and essential fats (Omega 3's) should be looked at critically. As an example, Niacin is commonly used in hypercholesterolemic birds in the veterinary world, but to the best of my knowledge seem to be almost NEVER considered in human medicine---why? Because of a possible interaction with STATINS of all things. Then if cholesterol is still of the charts, then maybe discuss it as a problem with their doctor and the need for cholesterol lowering medication. I know from my own experience, there is no way in hell I'm taking a drug that causes myositis and that affects the base compound for some very important hormones in my body without trying all alternates first.
