how often does 1 take a break after working out for some time,,ME: gym 4X a week for 4mths  then 1 week off,,,

I just took 10 days off went on vacation ate like crap the whole time...
I needed it...came back feeling better than ever.

mentally it is hard I would keep pushin till the holidays then take alittle break...come back in 09.
4x a week your getting 3 days off a week you should feel great.

I never take time off unless I physically or mentally don't feel up to working out.

unless i have hit an pleateau, the body automatically gives in,its better to lay off for few weeks then 8)

I recently became a bigger fan of periodization.

Perhaps not taking total layoffs. But after 4 weeks of hard training, I'll reduce the number of days working out and also cut down drastically on primarily volume, but also on training load somewhat.
I'll do this for 3-4 weeks, then I get back to training real heavy.

I found I can train harder when I allow for frequent 'breezing' periods.
