What did you think of the Obama Infomercial?
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:23:17 PM »
I thought it was a little predictable, sappy, at first.

But I gotta admit - at the end of it - it was pretty emotional.

I know he's a capitalist just like McCain.  (he's not a socialist by definition, you do know that).

But the production value was very good, it was flawlessly timed with the live exit speech, and it did its purpose.  A lot of people used to watching sitcome crap at 8 pm was sucked into those emotional stories, and probably ended up with a more favorable optinion of Obama.

Why would someone, who should be mopping the floor with McCain, have to run a 30 minute infomerical?

McCain is practically being charitable and giving it away yet Obama can't deliver the hard cross and knock him out.

I don't think the words, "have to run" are appropriate.  I don't see any indication whatsoever that the infomercial was a must do.

Okay, Hugo. He didn't have to run the informercial... but he did.

It's my opinion that he had to because McCain has been closing the gap over the past few days.

The McCain of today isn't the man who ran in 2000. This shouldn't even be close.

True.

I wouldn't be surprised if McCain pulled an upset.

He bought the airtime weeks ago when polls were tied.  I think in retrospect, they wouldn't have done it.  However, if Mccain was leading by 6 points in polls right now, or if some new crisis has arose, this airtime could have been used for some serious address to america.

Instead, it was a fluff piece that really did no harm.  Did anyone who was undecided watch this video and decide they hate obama? LOL...

More importantly, did anyone who was undecided watch the video and drink the kool-aid?

No I'm not.

At one point wasn't it reported that Obama had a double digit lead in the polls? Now today I'm hearing reports of Gallop polls that have McCain within 3 points?

Obama pwnd him in the debates. This should not be a close race.

You have a logic problem... the infomerical was a done deal long before McCain was closing the gap--if he actually is, there is no real indication of that.  As I pointed out today, he fell in average polls for the first time recently and as I went over each state the mass majority of that was in states McCain already has.  In several of the critical battleground states, Obama went up.

they were essentially tied when he bought the ad time.

It wasn't a response to yesterday's poll tightening.

It was planned weeks ago.

Don't get me wrong here. I know what you're saying.

I'm just saying that for someone that should have this election in the bag he's doing a lot of work to try to put him away in the final rounds.

I'm just surprised it's taking this much effort and that McCain's still in the fight.

If it was made and planned weeks ago why wait until now to air it?

Is it possible they (Obama's campaign advisors) knew it would be close and wanted something to counter any momentum McCain might gain in the final days?

I was watching UFC and wasn't going to be bored by a politician. I'll watch him on the Daily show for a few laughs.

They have to spend, spend, spend and make sure people really vote.

McCain can still win, especially if his opponents get complacent.

Because it was 6 days before the election and would have helped stop any problems, address any polling deficits.  This same video 3 weeks ago would have had little impact.  Undecided voters are deciding THIS WEEK.

Of course.

Meh... perhaps.

Reagan and Clinton didn't need no stinkin' 30 minute infomercials.

I'd have watched if they used Billy Mays. Then I could have listened to a pitch on Obama and Mighty Putty.  ;D

for the first black president or half black depending on how you view it he's doing better than I expected...  I wasn't sure it would happen in my lifetime and even now there are more videos on the net of "I can't vote for a black man" statements than I can count.  Even here on getbig, there have been many.  If you took Obama exactly how he is and made him white, he would probably be 15 to 20 points ahead in the polls.  Now I'm not trying to call racist in a divisive way, we all know how race has played out in America and I'm not pitting one race as being more or less at fault.  Just stating the facts that we all know all to well...

No, he hasn't.  Obama is even further ahead in the electoral vote.

your liberal press in action:   Obama up by 13 in PA = battleground state;  McCain up by 2 in AZ, not a battleground state.

People have pretended or fooled themselves for years into believing race has little bearing on how they see the world. IMO, it's not really racism (except in extreme cases), just that people can't believe a black man could actually end up being president.

Maybe it's culture shock or something.

I don't believe McCain would have a snowball's chance in hell if Obama were white. Not due to their political differences but because race wouldn't be a significant negative for Obama. The economy is just so screwed up and the war will be going on for a long time.

That was a very powerful video. For the first time in my live I was motivated to vote.
