No, that wasn't on the required reading list when I was in school  lol.  I do know of it, just haven't read it.

Being in a dominant/submissive relationship is slightly different.  There are two willing people agreeing, on some level, to pre-determined roles.  In this case, I'd bet that both have significant insecurities that are being catered to in some way by these roles.  It may not be healthy, but a situation like that could actually work.

An overblown ego is also a sign of insecurity.  Those who excessively talk themselves up are usually the most insecure of all.

Gee, I didn't realize you were so knowledgeable about that stuff.  You sound like quite an expert.  ;)

::)  lol

Glad to hear it, Sara.

We protect our members here on Getbig.  We don't want to see you get trapped in a situation where you're just getting used.  No one wants that for you.

Some of those poor girls get fooled into thinking they're enjoying themselves, but really they're not.

I wasn't just referring to my past mistakes.  Although I've made a few, lol.

It's a mistake many of us make.  Looking to someone else to make you feel happy and loved will inevitably lead to misery because no other person can do that except for you.  I no longer get involved with people for any other reason except that I see beauty in them, and want to be a part of it.

I don't agree with this. I do think you can find someone who makes you feel all those things. Being loved and in love is about the most inflamed one can be, emotionally. The problem is always , for me at least, keeping it alive. Sadly, people are less wonderful after a year or two.

I can't say for sure, but I think Sara has had good luck keeping things interesting with the leather restraints she has hidden in the darkest corner of her closet, but it seems like she'd rather talk about "feelings" instead.

Kidding!  I'm kidding! Feelings are...ya know... good, 'n stuff... important.

Oi gevalt!

what distinguishes between an overblown ego .. vs .. true self worth and confidence ?

If you love yourself and are happy .. it only makes life more incredible to include someone into your life that makes you happy and makes you feel loved ... misery comes from not being genuine and honest .. lots of people "think" it's more than it is when they hook up .. then when the going gets a little rocky ..they cut and run

I see girls "advertising" themselves .. so what kind of men will they get ? better question is what kind of man do they want ?

shallow ..and maybe even someone else's .. but not one that is interested in them for more than the initial hormonal attraction

There's a difference between being confidant and being cocky.  Cocky is self-absorbed and unable to see past themselves in any situation because they desperately need to feel important.  Confidance is more balanced.  There's value placed on oneself, but not at the expense of others.

I couldn't agree more.  Being genuine and honest with yourself makes it nearly impossible to be anything but that with another.

People are far too quick to, "cut and run," as you put it.  People seem to forget that relationships are tricky.  They take work, patience, honesty, and a genuine desire to get through the rough days and enjoy the beautiful ones.  Loyalty is a quality that is hard to find these days, in both genders.  The sanctity of relationships, whether one's own, or another's seems lost in the world of instant gratification.

Happiness is an internal event.

Good people in your life can contribute to happiness but never cause it.

My goal is to be happy just how things are, and for the presence of another to only enhance it.  I readily admit to being a work-in-progress.
