As I said before, this issue goes BEYOND parties. You might be interested to know that 35 percent of Democrats (in the BLUEST state of them all, perhaps) voted for Prop. 8; Nearly half of Democratic voters in the now-"blue" state of Florida voted for its Amendment 2, defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
It also transcends race, as 70 percent of black voters in California and 71 percent of black voters in Florida voted to pass their states' respective amendments.
The lopsided win for Obama in the presidental race DOES NOT mean that people are endorsing gay "marriage". Again, Obama voters had as much to do with this as McCain voters did.
As for renewed focus for Republicans, it was fiscal foolishness that spelled DOOM for the GOP. What this Obama election and the passing of the marriage amendments have shown me is that, while economic issues ruled the day, social issues are still important to BOTH sides of the aisle.
I think this also encourages those folks in Mass., who have been repeatedly hamstrung by a crooked liberal legislature and governor, bent on NOT letting the people have their say on the issue of marriage. The mentality has been that, once gay "marriage" is legalized in a state, that's all she wrote and those who oppose it just have stand by and take it. What just happened in California proves that such is NOT TRUE!!
