Does FLEX magazine support the new Mr. O or not?
« on: November 12, 2008, 02:52:16 PM »
Why was Jackson buried on the pull out cover and basicly hiden IMO. You would think it would have been the other way around. Is the UFC more important?  ???

dude i totally agree with this. the thing saying Dex was the new Mr O looked just like another muscle tech ad to me, i about missed it.

He should have been front cover without a doubt. The coverage inside the mag was good but he still should have been on the front.

It is kind of odd how Flex and M&F have moved over to do more reporting on MMA.  What does that have to do with bodybuilding?  They totally dissed Dex and the Olympia.

Wonder what Uncle Joe Weider thinks about this development?

Yea.. was very, very dissapointing to see the NEWEST MR. OLYMPIA not on the FLEX / WEIDER cover.  ???

I guess it's all about what brings in the most $$$ but trying to grab a few more buyers who notice the UFC gimmick-cover.

Exactly, plus the two guys on the cover look like shit.  Couture is a skinny-fat washed up tool and Lesnar is an big ugly ogre with a dick tattoo on his chest.  :-\

Lesnar is a clown, he laughed at his last opponent and rode on him at the end of the fight.  ::)

I hope he gets his ass handed to him soon, though I don't see Couture beating him..  :-[

Planet Muscle was even worse....they didn't put Dex on the cover and they didn't even have coverage of the event on the inside..just a BLURB ON THE COVER ANNOUNCING DEX AS MR. OLYMPIA and a picture of Dex posing with his medal..AND THE PIC WAS ON THE LAST PAGE OF THE MAGAZINE!

I like planet muscle but sometimes Jeff Everson comes across as a cheap ass..pocketing all the profits and not wanting to spring for a reporter for the event...as a matter of fact, Planet Muscle doesn't cover ANY events

Dex is on the January cover

Flex is trying to expand interest in the sport by drawing people into it that might not otherwise be interested.

It is called cross promotion and bodybuilding needs to start doing it more if it hopes to grow. That will in turn get more people to the events, more money into the sport, and higher payouts at the contests.

We've turned our backs on the sport, but we just announced our second BB show in Germany next year a week after Olympia?
That makes no sense at all.

and we not only had a video series featuring Dexter leading up to the Olympia, but several articles as well and more on the way, so I guess we don't support him either.

One of these days we will see something positive on this site about the mags, but I certainly won't hold my breath.

I know they're trying to appeal to a broader audience (thus sell more mags), but, I can guarantee you that the MMA crowd is NOT into roided freaks, who parade and flex for trophies. That's is reality, folks.

This is a no win situation for the bbing mags. So they may as well keep their readers (whatever they have now) and keep them happy by focusing on men in thongs, than to do stupid pieces on MMA athletes, who schmoes and muscle worshipers are NOT into.

First off....not a sport. Anyone with a clue would tell you that. Comp. bbing is about as "sport" as darts.

Second, as I stated above, I can just about guarantee that these "crossovers" will only piss off your current readers, but won't grow mag sales. Why? Comp. is boring, and that's not even getting into the whole "roids" stigma of it.

And finally, there have been positive thing posted here about mags. It just so happens that the truth is spoken here, and people like you tend to not like it. There really is no reason for most of us to BUY bbing mags, yours (Flex) or someone else's. They're all repetitive, and ALL feed us bullshit.

Granted, I don't have firsthand knowledge about what the pros use in their training to bulk, but Brutal Fox has a plausible point:

"Half of these guys, they're just writers trying to make a living... They're big and fat and always writing bullshit. They're just clever writers..."

Paul Dillet and Flex Wheeler take note...

I like his voice.  I always find it funny to hear a black man with a British accent.

You had a video series featuring Dex AND Jay. This was extremely biased towards saying those were the guys who were going to finish 1 and 2 in the contest and no-one else had a look in.

If you want the sport to grow cut the bullshit decisions out like Jay winning in 2007 and Wolf coming 5th (and then Flex not giving him the time of day to say he should be competitive with Jay in 2008).

It's better to hang onto the support you have rather than piss people off just to appease your main sponsor of the event. Why even try and get new people when you have decisions like that which will just make them believe the contest is rigged?

This is a cult sport, it's never going to draw much from other sports fans. You should spend your time marketing to the gay audience you will have better luck.

I was thinkin' EXACTLY the same thing, dawg! You would think that being a so-called "bodybuilding magazine", they would've had Dexter on the cover. Where they put him on the magazine (buried in the pullout cover) seems like a smack in the face.

FLEX magazine is having a Dexter Jackson Special article next issue following the road to his Olympia win. I'm expecting to see him on the cover this time, if not, then I know they're insulting him!  >:(

I think that Planet Muscle is still on the way up and doesn't make much money yet.  Doubt that they can afford to send a reporter to the events.  They may also figure, every other magazine covers the events, so what extra can we add?

I am pretty sure that the majority of the pictures in the mag are from stock photo companies.  I doubt that they spend much on specific photo shoots for the mag or if they do, use freelance photographers.
