« on: November 14, 2008, 09:32:54 PM »
I am stuck in what to do. i am 6' 3'' 1 46lbs and i work out 3 -4 times a week. Currently i am on a high protien diet with about 8000 calories a day. But i  am not gaining mass just defining what is already there. Is there anything i can do to start gaining mass? Anyone know what to do?

Ok not a troll lol.......just a high metabolism......

as far as my work out

Not sure of the lingo but i use free wieghts 5 lbs - 50 lbs various ways in sets of 15
I also bench about 50 - 100 in sets of 10

I just have a basic home set - up

Diet is pretty much 4 - 5 meals a day , eggs, beef, peanut butter, high protien high calorie foods, i cahnge it up so i don't get bored with it.

I am new at this but decided to start doing something when i hit 146lbs. I have been working at it for about 6 months.

Join a gym

Lifting at home with such limited equipment and weight isn't going to cut it. There are plenty of good programs that you could look at here and on other boards, and check out the nutrition board for more info about diet and what not.

Yes, don't over-complicating things.

At your current state, i'd say eat anything and everything in sight and just stick to the basic compound lifts in the gym. It may seem hard at first (mentally and physically) but the fundamental basics of getting bigger are quite simple really...
No doubt about it...

Is that weight or reps?

Stick to mainly compound excercises (don't waste time on tricep kickbacks, concentration curls etc).  You need to be doing benchpresses, deadlifting, squats, barbell curling, bent rows etc.  Use heavier weights on your last sets so that you can do about 5 - 6 reps.  If your metabolism is that high you need to keep cardio out of your weight training regime, so don't do high reps.

Oh yeah, eat enough real fats.  such as burgers, steak etc.  Get enough calories from fat.
It hasn't helped...

Join a gym, learn how to do compound basics and hit them hard, squats, bench, deadlifts, overhead presses, barbell rows, etc.

x 2 on the lower reps.

You obviously find it hard to gain weight, so you need heavy basic moves, low volume, low reps, high intensity.  Get in, workout, get out.  No cardio.  Make sure you eat before going to bed, and again as soon as you get up.

Also, 8000 calories a day?  ???  What are you eating to be hitting this many calories?

He may not be a troll, but i agree that something doesn't add up.

Even the hardest gainer with the fastest metabolism would gain some size on an 8000cal a day diet.

That being said, theres no way this guy eats 8000 cals a day. 8000 cals is HEAPS!! He probably eats half that amount (4000 or so)...

No doubt about it...

exactly, 8000 calories a day is A LOT of food, and still "defining"  ::)

yeah, no offense to him, but that is pretty scrawny.

As i already said, the fundamental basics for gaining size are quite simple. Eat lots (in his case HEAPS) of good foods. Protein and carbs high, good fats kinda high. Hit the gym 3-5 days a week, compound lifts, 6-10 reps.

If you don't gain size doing that, take up swimming... ;D

Funnily enough at a fairly fat 5'10 240lbs i was a state level swimmer. It's funny, i didn't look like a swimmer at all yet was a good short distance swimmer.

Maybe i should stop wasting my time bb'ing and get back in the pool, being that i'm now leaner.  ;D
