carbs are barely protein sparing when at rest. BARELY.
at rest... even on zero carbs+zero fats... you only lose a bit of amino acids to gluconeogensis.. hormonally speaking... you automatically switch to fat when carbs arent available..
ill just put it like this, if ur going to "refeed" ur protein requirement drops, u only need so much food/energy intake.
If u eat too much food and dont have the energy expense to use it up your going to get fat, u only need so much energy before ur body will start storing it as fat. also, people eat way too much protein to begin with, its not a free macronutrient like most people believe.
Just look how layne norton does his clients diets, he keeps proteins at a moderate level, carbs are variable and fats are as well, but on refeed days the fat stays the same or lowers a tad, carbs increase and protein drops. Thats the perfect way to do it. Protein requirements are vastly over rated.
Thats it though, going to see the wrestler IM OUT!
